PHPBUILT's Idiot-Proof Guide to Authority Site Building

After reading many more and less usefull comments I still miss one fact in case of the keyword-density.
For sure the keyword-density is a fact for valuating the quality of a website. But it is highly relative and depends on the keyword that is liked to be used.
Cause there are words (at least a keyword is just a word but with a descriptive meaning) that are more common and therefore more used in writing and talking and there are words that are much less used in common. Please dont ask now for samples, but the counting and ratio calculation of a keyword wont make it.
in my very own meaning (hehe...) the number of keywords in a website text have to be seen in how much that keyword is used in common.
Otherwise a pure product page about sunglasses for example are surely overstuffed with the keyword "sunglass"... But you surely have to use it in nearly every sentence, otherwise you cant write a usefull text, right?
Finally each business page, for a service or a product must been stuffed with the keyword if you build the page for the visitor and your customers.
So just to say dont use more than a 5% ratio for your keyword isnt the point for me.
Sorry for my bad grammar, but english isnt my prefered language.
And thanks for PHPBUILT for spending his time to share usefull knowledge. I really appreciate that cause it keep my own ideas running, smile
Kind regards from Cebu/Phillipines

I lol at some of my old posts and some of the threads on here and other forums.

However, one thing I do know now is that "Keyword Density" was never a Google Ranking Factor at all.

Rank me a website then with keyword stuffing, I dare you!

Boomarked and Thanked... it's great.. thank you very much for sharing..

Hey PHP, thanks for the great knowledge.

Q: You said to avoid having pages that compete with each other (dog training vs dog obedience), but what would you recommend for a news blog? My website has a "green widgets" product page, but then we also write news articles on green widgets. How would you go about this to a) provide updated news; and b) not have posts/pages compete with one another?

Thanks again.

Old but gold.
Get going with it and start testing out how it works, do changes affect and how they affect. That lies between the success and failure of the sites. It's work like any other you do.
Thats why big folks dominate and small ones use all kind of tactics to overpower them. So treat your sites as business and do it as business and you never ever want to use "next best method to beat ... " again to collaps and ruin all the work you have put in.I assume thats the reason also why not all people can be business owners...

I started trying this a few days ago with a new site. Just wanted to show gratitude to PHP and blackhatworld by posting some results:
2 day old website, keyword is "best widget"
I made 3 posts in the past day, interlinking them, I added NO pictures or anything whatsoever, just because I'm rushing to get some posts out first, so they can age
Keyword 1: best widgets for under $x
Keyword 2: best widgets for under $y
Keyword 3: best widgets for fanciness

all of these are 300 searches monthly. Results?
Keyword 1 ranked for #26 on the second day.
Keyword 2 didn't rank, but the post for keyword 1 was ranking in it's place, referencing keyword 2 at the related posts (a sign, just like he said, that was stuffed.)
Keyword 3 didn't rank at all

All of my posts did rank for Keyword + 2015, however.

Densities before ranking:
Keyword 1:
widget: 1.7%
$x: 1.7%
Keyword 2:
widget: 1.8%
$y: 1.5%
Keyword 3:
widget: 1.3%
fanciness: 1%

Seeing how keyword 2 was giving evidence of being stuffed, I took out "widget" 2 times, peeling it back to around 1.5% and the next day it ranks for #26 on a 300 monthly search term.
After I did that, without editing the post for keyword 3, Keyword 3 now ranks for 69 in serps on it's post.
Keyword 1 Still ranking good, I'm gonna add some more posts, keep growing the sight, and make these posts rich with media.

I still haven't added any Ama zon links (I'm gonna try amazonn affiliate) because I know G is on the hunt for thin aff sites, and I want to look good before throwing links in left and right.
Also, I never added "widget" or "$x" into ANY h tags whatsoever, yet even with that, I got keyword stuffing penalty on 2/3 posts. Maybe keyword three was actually too low for ranking. Gonna test and find out.
Site name is "bestwidgetbla" where "bla" is an extra modifier. The site title and slogan itself (wordpress title that shows up in searches) doesn't mention my keyword, but has 2015 in it.

Recommendation to noobs: find a HIGHLY monetizable term that you can sell, and wouldn't mind researching if you HAD to. Don't overthink it. Jump in. Make mistakes. Learn. When you start seeing results, you'll be motivated to see it through. Just don't make the mistake of quitting or refusing to jump in.

update:
format:

$10 widget 28 1.57 $10 1.57
$50 widget 30 1.23 $50 1.41
fancy widget 33 1.27 fancy 1.5

cheap widget null 1.82 cheap 1.82
sports widget null 1.27 sports ??
best quality widget null 1.43 quality 1.43
pretty widget 71 1.34 pretty 1.05

*flagged as possible spam on keyword density checker (webseoanalytics)
the #3 keyword from before is ranking 33 after I edit

I'm wondering why some of them didn't rank. They're all extremely similar, and might as well be the same article, but rewritten for uniqueness and keyword densities. They all have some quierky few paragraphs that makes them unique, but I wonder why. I thinking because a couple compete with each other, but notably, one of the two articles still ranks. Proof that this still works though.

Additional update:
I've been focusing on getting all my keywords ranking. Keyword #3 dropped off the face of SERPS for no reason, so I did a lot of troubleshooting to figure out why. What I tried:
Deleting similar keyword posts
I had ~8 posts
1 was "cheap widget"
1 was "best quality widget"
these seemed to be competing with my articles, since I was aready basically mentioning those two words a lot. Deleting them didn't really have any effect, but was probably still beneficial. They weren't ranking, anyways, even with 1.2% KWD
I also tried improving the quality. Didn't really work, but worked a little.
I checked the keyword density on article #3 and it was at 1.57%. I cut out the keyword once dropping it back to 1.27%, and a few days layer, voila! It got resurrected back into the club of SERPS
Researching in the thread PHP said a stuffed article may rank well at first, then drop off serps, so that is what happened.
Dropping out of SERPS = keyword stuffing 99% on low monthly search terms
Magic % these days seems to be no less than .6% and no more than 1.5%. Probably around 1% is good? Will be checking. It is different for each page, backlink profile, and keyword, of coarse. Could be a milion things.
Additional noob advice:
From what I was reading of thread, don't do specific product reviews. Too compeditive. But rather than focusing on the product itself (like sony mp3 player) try something like
best mp3 player for kids
since the SERPS is not compeditive for that specific term. On BHW I have also seen this: quality + relevance > backlinks / age / yada yada
You CAN rank for any term you want, if most of the top 10 don't target it very specifically, of course you can! Also, if you throw enough money at a situation, it will work, but NEVER buy fiverr SEO packages (unless you need spam / grunt labor )
Just wanted to share research since I too was once a noob checking these pages to see if it still works, hesitating, but not jumping in. (nah, I'm still a noob...) thx

Very glad you are back. Read this thread 20+ times and applied to my websites everything I learned here. I can't thank you enough.

I guess if we checked this thread back links... I will be the one who sent most of them

I keep referring everyone asking me about on page optimization here as its the best guide in the net when it comes to on page seo (anyone can check my latest thread - case study -) to confirm this

Very happy you are back phpbuilt and waiting for your next guide... Keep the gems coming :)

OMG, a few weeks ago I first looked at your last login and it was in 2014 and I thought you quit IM or you're rich enough or whatever and I wouldn't have a chance to say thank you for this great thread.
And then today I checked again and see that you're back! This is so great!
Thanks a lot for this great tut.

I don't know if it's asked already and it's really difficult to find in this really huge thread but I'm having difficulties to count keyword density like Google would count it. What I mean is that I don't know if eg an alt tag for an image where our KW is located counts as well? Or when we have an additional link where the KW is integrated. Does this count too?

I hope that it's clear what I wanted to ask now. :-)

Additionally what's the best Browser Add-on or tool to count the KW density?

Yes, Google counts alt-tags for image. Additionally, most tools don't check for it. Something to keep in mind as you're balancing a page ... though I'd be inclined to de-optimize text before I would de-optimize an image.

Additionally what's the best Browser Add-on or tool to count the KW density?
