PHP Programming Book

If you are going to learn PHP, you may as well learn Mysql as they go hand in hand.

I started learning from "PHP & MySQL" one of the Visual Books. ISBN# 0-470-04839-5.

I supplementented it with w3schools.com/PHP/DEfaULT.asP, they have awsome learning examples.

To this day, I still use these resources when I get brain freeze or start over thinking basic stuff.

Hope this helps.

sitepoint has good php books.
you can download some sample
chapters at their web site...

i would always use the original php documentation, since all the ebooks are pretty much outdated.

Can anyone recommend a good book/ebook for learning php?

if you want to become a GOOD programmer not just hack and slash then id suggest reading theory before you start with any language, then you will understand the best way to build things before you start and make a mess (everyone hates me for saying this), start with wikipedia reading about OOP, MVC, SQL and 3NF and go from there, data structures probably wouldnt hurt either

THEN try and write something with the php manual open in a browser tab and see how you go

be warned, what i suggested isnt for the feint of heart, it takes a lot of work to understand theory but it will make you a better programmer at the end of the day

Your the 3rd person to tell me that this week and I think I will take the advice. While I am not wanting to make programming my career, it does make sense to understand what and why I am doing something and not just because the book says so.
