Don't forget to learn HTML, CSS, jQuery, AJAX and Javascript they are all EXTREMELY usefull and worth learning if that is your goal.

The main is HTML/CSS/PHP if you want to be able to create sites yourself.

That should be worth a negative rep... was a very poor answer.

On several occasions I have learned a some stuff from the "Bible" series from Wiley Publishings. They also have several books about PHP.

Otherwise one efficient way I would recommend too, is to do task-specific searches, and learning that way. The basics you should however learn before that.

I learned a lot hacking on Wordpress sites, but I wouldn't recommend that haha

Check out UserCake. It's an open source, lightweight user management system --something you'll probably need pretty quick. It's well written so you can learn a lot of things by using it and tweaking it to do what you need.

Tuxradar.com has a great php tutorial.

Obviously the documentation is the best.
