don't know if i am posting this thread in the right place anyways

This is your newbie speaking lately i've been in search of a PHP book thats made for a complete retard somebody who's a complete beginner who has only read first 5 chapters of the famous detel and detel c++ five years ago..

kindly suggest names of PHP books that were written recenlty and target complete beginners...

i'd say just install xampplite (google it), on your comp & make a few files & get used to it.

Its really not hard when you get your head around the ideas of it. Could easily be making some good scripts next week with some action & some ingenuity!

if you've ever programmed (programmed, not made websites), then just jump right in and play around with stuff you find n see what you can make it do. If not, get a basic book.

Sure a teacher/lecturer at your local education establishment should be able to help you!

Its a good language to learn, however i neglect it far too much!

PHP for Dummies is a good start but kind of boring. Install a web server on your computer (XAMPP works well) go hunt for tutors online instead. there are a bunch of great ones for beginners. Now it was some time ago since I was there myself so I haven't got any link collection to PHP tutors except one I saw the other day that looks promising. Do check out Nettuts They have recently fired up a PHP tutor serial for beginners and if that tutor is as good as their other material it will be well worth it.

As suggested above get the php for dummies book. And get yourself xampp from apache friends. Just reading a book will not do it, you will need to use the examples in the book and try it yourself.

Briefly, xampp runs on windoze and you get php/mysql and other add-ons that you would get with a standard hosting package. The best thing is, it runs on your computer.

Is there a program out there that gives people without much php coding experience an easier hand at setting up database driven websites, or help with coding in general. It seems like all the ones I have come across you still need a basic understanding of php coding to even use them. Kind of a WYSIWUG php program.

databases are really easy in PHP! trust me, making them via php (via DDL) is hard, but using them in php (via DML) is easy. it gets down to "select * from table where x = y" or w.e.

xampp comes with PHPmyadmin which you can use as a GUI for making YSQL databases etc, and can query and do everything in tht, sorta like a web based access. Simply make your query & it spits you the code you need for your website.

I've never really read any php books, i was just thrown in and forced to swim so to speak, same with java, so i can't recommend any books apart from the obvious ones.

just try little things. try to display a message, try to take an input & display it, take 2 inputs & do something with them etc. and just gradually build everything up slowly.

Everyone starts somewhere - you aren't born able to write PHP ... well not all of us!

Unfortunately there really isn't such an animal, you could use an Aptana IDE (Integrated Development Environment) for an editor. There is also a program called DBDesigner v4. That you can graphically create tables for your db. It's free.

You would need to understand relational databases and the symbols used to define relationship types. It will connect to xampp or to your website.

But I suggest you build your app using xampp and then up it to your website.
