Hi, so I can take it from your post you are unhappy with the service? I was going to place an order with SS but having second thoughts now. I also understand from a early post they may not use cPanel on shared hosting. (The proper cPanel) if anyone can confirm this plz.
Shame really, as they did come across as a good new server company.
ZennoB can you tell me plz which cpanel sharkservers use please. I am sure I read it somewhere but can not find it again. zpanel or directadmin I think
Thanks
Our panel of choice is DirectAdmin - it's fast, secure and very easy to use.
Here are a few things why we don't use cPanel anymore:
- it relies on Perl everywhere and that slows things down a lot
- there is no licensing option that is cost effective. They also don't have any lifetime licensing options. This means that if we were to use cPanel, we would have to pay for the licenses all the time. That means we will not be able to keep our prices down and would need to oversell - and that's something that we don't want to do, and will never do.
- User interface: It may be easy to use if you've used it before, but the interface is cluttered with things that most people will never use. And if they do, they will most likely break something. That'd increase support tickets and lead to slower response times for genuine problems that could be addressed otherwise.
That said, DirectAdmin has a simple interface, but offers the same functionality. If something doesn't work, me or my staff is always around to help. We would not be able to do that if we were running cPanel - there's too much hype about that panel, but fixing one thing can break others and that we don't want. This is not the case with DirectAdmin - you can't break things from the panel, so in one way or another - it's safer.
I would also like to take this opportunity and let you all know that there's a half price promo going on until November 22 for shared hosting. Use promo code "HALFPRICE14" to get any shared hosting plan at 50% off - for life! Also, since last week we're accessible via http://sharkserve.rs as well as the previously listed domains.
