We're getting very close to releasing the Forum Generator 1.5 beta to customers. It is a complete rethinking of the application. How do you control spammers on the forums? If you've got lots of forums this must be a real time-waster if you have to manually do this.

Do you use .coms for your forums or can you use .infos to save some money on domains? If I want to setup 50 forums on .coms thats almost $500 so it's a lot of change.

Do you setup many forums on sub-domains? Do they work as well?

You can use a ReCAPTCHA plug-in for phpBB (available here) to take care of most spammers. I use it on the blackhatzen forums and haven't had a spammer sign-up since I installed it.

You can use any TLD you want. Whether or not TLD has an effect on a site's ability to rank is up in the air. I've seen many .info's rank well. Avoid sub-domains if you're using the forums for SEO purposes.

I've actually come up with a new monetization method for my forums, so I will try this out when it lands. Quick critical question, can I execute php in the body of the posts? I'm looking at automating epn, perhaps into the first post of each thread. It would be good if that was an option, and adsense for those adsense fans, (I'm not one).

You'd have to modify phpBB directly to insert PHP or JS code into an actual post, which is unfortunate. The new signature function we've made will allow you to assign sigs to a random % of users. It automatically converts raw HTML to BBcode, so most basic stuff (images, links, etc) will display properly.

I haven't looked, but there very well may be a pre-existing phpBB mod to allow the insertion of JS or PHP into posts. The phpBB mod community is pretty strong.

There are no domain limitations as long as you maintain sole ownership of the domains FG is installed on.

Yes, it could absolutely help generate traffic to an LP. You could do this by automatically linking keywords to a URL every time they appear in a post.

You can check out the demo forum here. Forums created by the upcoming 1.5 release look much more realistic, but the demo should give you an idea of how it works.
