I'm honestly against this app for the simple reason it's bad for society in general we're all gonna pay for this app when we pay our taxes every year.

All this app does is create a lower pay for cab drivers therefor decreasing tax revenue and increasing unemployment.
And other problems such as criminality and gov benefits when those people lose their jobs in the future as a result of this app.
You can keep your 20$.

Just expressing my opinion if that's not allowed in this thread just delete the comment.

LOL........and you speak for the cab drivers do you?? I'm UK based and use this all the time, it's a great app and every cab driver i've spoken to loves it
 
Looks to me that Uber is just involved in the capitalist society just like cab companies... offering a service in a market that is competitive.

Is it cheaper than the cabs in my area?

I'm not sure as the last cab I was in was in New York a couple of years ago... is it less expensive than a typical livery (limo) service in my area?

Yes it is and I know those rates well as I do not drive unless I have to.

The ride quality is there, there are options as to vehicle types (uberX is available here) and there is quality service.

Supply and demand sets the price and if I am going to spend my dollar on a ride I might as well as get the best bang for my buck.

Oh yeah, there are real people driving those cars and making that money and they have families, mortgages and buy food at their local supermarket + they pay taxes on their earnings.

tbh I prefer to pay a bit extra and be sure my driver is professional, regulated and have proper insurance...

Moving to self-driving cars completely changes their business model, which could be a bad move for them.

Firstly - to do so they would need to own, insure and maintain a fleet of cars - a huge added expense.

Secondly - it opens them up to extra competition. Any company who can fund a fleet of cars more quickly, will dominate them.

I don't think he's thought it through properly
 
I HIGHLY recommend watching the South Park "handicar" episode. Anyone that says "wahhh Uber takes money away form the cabs," etc needs to watch this.

The message is simple. Clean up the cabs, provide a better service...and there won't be a problem.

Got to love 'Merica...simply provide a more convenient service...eliminate sketchy drivers....remove the puke from the backseat...and BOOM...lines of people ready to pay. Mind blown (sarcasm)
 
There are some coveates to this some being that it may be more stressful choosing where you want to order your dinner from. My girlfriend and I often get into pretty intense debates about where we are going to get our dinner from, I usually win and then use the promo code for $10 discount.
 
Recently traveled from Texas to California to visit a friend and decided to use Uber for all of my getting around while in Cali. Just wanted to say it was an awesome experience and I met some really cool uber drivers who recommended some awesome restaurants, bars, etc. A lot of times I was only waiting a few minutes before an Uber showed up to pick me up and if it was real late, they had bottled waters and candy in the car. Was pretty cool that some of the drivers had bottled waters waiting for you after a night of drinking at the bar.

The app is also well designed. You can see in real time where the uber drivers are in relation to you via a map so you can see when they're getting close. Pretty cool.

Overall great experience on my end. Will definitely use it again :)
 
Uber Sux......I did it for a few months, you make Jack, your car gets many local miles, and then someone PUKED in my back seat. The smell still shows up now and then. The Insurance for Uber Drivers (un known to them) requires a Lawyer if you get in a bad accident. Other Goodies> you pick up a druggie and get stopped by a cop, you go to jail with him .. or .. you are an Uber driver with drugs, with customer in car, you get stopped and popped, you and your customer go to jail. So if you decide to drive in an UBER car, just hope nothing go wrong with the drive.. and if you decide to make some extra cash driving drunks around - ensure you got a good laywer in case of an accident and getting sued. Yeah, Uber makes 20% of your fare, and they don't give a shit about anything else..

17 billion dollar company - NO PHONE SUPPORT - No Regulations - Just Glorified HitchHiking with a cool app is all it is.

Sounds like a great app. Going to sign up when I'm on PC next.
I see its in UK as well, but not sure if it's available in Scotland?
