I'm not affiliated with Hostamus except as a customer, but if you just search Google you'll find how to use a VPS. All you do is open Remote Desktop Connection, put in the IP, username and password (which is emailed to you) and then you'll see the VPS desktop. It's just a computer that you control through RDC.

You download the software and install just like you would on your normal PC. When you quit the RDC connection or shut down your computer at home, the VPS keeps running.
 
He's ok Skype all the time, in fact I talked to him yesterday. I think he's too busy to respond to forum posts. I don't know about him, but many service providers has BST threads at 5 or more forums so keeping up with them can be consuming. No excuses, but just thought I'd give you a little insight since I really do like his service. I have 3 servers with him and they're rock solid.
