They are very efficient very powerful in terms of link juice and can also bring traffic straight to your money site. Of Course web 2.0 isn't the only thing i used to rank these high up, but it brings more that 90% of my ranking increase. A good tip is to create high quality social bookmarks to the web 2.0s, this will get them even more powerful as well as help them get indexed faster.
