imho you don't need to change your strategie. you only have to do your work more accurate.
- topic relatet articles, only spun a few times (not 1000times), with different positions for the link.
- no linking beetween the domains (to avoid the domino effect)
- no pinging (if google finds the sites himself it is more natural)
- mybe special niche domains.
article marketing is still working, if you do it accurate.
but this kind of seo is a running game. in the time google detect 10 sites you have to build 11 new sites.
is's a full time job to hold a large (high trust) private article network alive.
