This is the last straw for me with hostwinds. VPS is down again. Leaving them ASAP.

AVOID HOSTWINDS.

Full review on the way as soon as i fix this fucking mess they have caused with their terrible servers.
Let me tell you the bullshit that they're going to:

"Yes, we have had several 2500 GBPS attacks to our servers, we are working on managing such attacks, these are the largest attacks we have ever received. Hopefully this message makes it look like we care.

All the best,

Peter"

I've got a dedi and a VPS down at the moment. I've sent Peter a message on Skype and if I know him
he will be bending over backwards right now trying to rectify this.

Is everything okay with your hosting? Im getting probably the 10th mail that my website is down.

I'm sure he is. To be honest the support i have had has been great pretty much consistently for the 1+ years i have been with them. Its just their servers that suck.

I just got my account suspended due to too much traffic. I understand the limitations as it was shared account, but what I don't like is that account is suspended without warning and giving some small time frame to fix the issue. Its really rude just block the account and access to cpanel and files without any prewarning.

People... you have to understand ... this cheep hostings are just to start! I'm with Hostwinds and i'm not happy too but you have to understand. If you want good hosting you have to pay more. As soon as you start making money just move to the "big boys"

My money sites are down for a few hours . Not happy about it. I`ll have to move to another provider

Hey Guys,

We had a large inbound DDOS attack, we are currently working on the specifics. Everyones sites should be up as of about 22 minutes ago. I will update this thread with a full incident report, once we have all the information.

We take all outages very seriously, and this will be taken care of....you have my word

Cheap or not, paying customer should not be blocked out without prewarning and chance to fix the issue, no excuses. I have dedicated servers elsewhere and I'm ready to pay for the good service so that is not an issue in my case.

If your site was blocked without warning, please give me your email. I will investigate and fix the issue immediately

Just bought unlimited domain, shared hosting . lets see how we go..
Edit: Do you still have Ddos attack problem ??
I've just changed dns servers , hope I ll have good starting :D

Agreed, this happened to me also. Content went slightly viral (150 users on site at a time). Site suspended without warning and was down for 6+ hours while i upgraded to a vps. They would not reinstate my site temporarily while the vps upgrade happened. Needless to say that killed the viral content and cost me dearly.

When i get chance i will explain it all in my review.

My least favorite host, time to switch to NameCheap, worst decision I've made.

Every 10 minutes the site goes down and I get a message "unfortunately we didn't know we would ever get ddosed so we don't know what to do, but we'll try to do something, even though we should've before".

This is is making even godaddy look a good hosting option...

Hey guys,

Sorry it took me so long to get everything together for this post. My number one priority all day was working to ensure all client's were taken care of. We have made a lot of major changes today to ensure that the issues that happened today, will not ever happen again. I am not naive enough to say that DDOS attacks will never happen again, however, I am putting measures in place to see that they do not affect our customers again.

I will be flying out to Dallas tomorrow morning, to put some additional protective measures into place. We have added some additional protections to our network to hold us over until tomorrow. The hardware changes that we are making tomorrow will help to better segregate our network out, to better sustain large DDOS attacks, and help mitigate their impact on our client base.

We care about our client's more than anything, and it has been a long journey since we first started in 2010. I really appreciate everyone's patience and kindness with us as a result of this incident. We did not live up to our 99.9% uptime guarantee this month, because of this all client's who were affected by the outage are entitled to this month's hosting being completely free. Please just open a ticket with our support department within 48 hours letting them know you would like to take advantage of this.

I invite anyone who has a problem of any kind with our hosting to get in touch with me. I am always here working to ensure all of our client's are happy. I am never too busy to take time out of my day to talk to a concerned client. Here is my contact information:

Email: Peter(at)hostwinds.com
Skype: Hostwinds.Peter
Phone: 855-467-8946 (Ask for Peter)

I once again want to thank all of our loyal client's for your understanding.
