The best hosting Company Around hands down, i think ive been with them for almost 2 years now or longer lol. I just upgraded to a vps and let me tell you couldnt be any happier plus Crazy Cheap for what im getting

Hey BlackHatWorld,I wanted to take the time to let everyone here know how appreciative we are for everyone here who has tried out our hosting. We work really hard every single day to make our hosting the best hosting on the web. We want Hostwinds to be different than every other hosting company on the net. We try to separate ourselves from the other "big names" out there by providing unbeatable personal customer service and support. I know that Hostwinds wouldn't be where it is today without the continued support of the BHW community, so this post is my way of "giving back"

What are the plans and prices? I was using hostgator since 2007 but now I am also searching for other best options.
With cheap hosting deals everywhere, i think it will be better to research a little more on those companies before committing. If we simply just choose the cheapest, we can be saving a couple of dollars a month, but end of having a nightmare dealing with slow support and down website. Its not worth the couple of dollars a month. With that said, I just sign up Hostwinds about a week ago. Their deals are excellent!! and i have read a lot of great reviews not just on this forum. You don't need to take my words for it -- just google for them and spend an hour reading up.

Review for Hostwinds from a new customer (I used the Black Friday promotion)
I bought the advanced reseller package for what I consider the lowest industry price I would go to, where one wants good performance and support.
Support during the purchase procedure was excellent.
I needed 16 sites moved over from my last host (HG, who were great until they upgraded us to a new server).
Hostwinds took 3 days to do the move which was very good seeing 2 days were the weekend.
On starting work on one of the sites, I found the small mediawiki in a subdir was running script errors because proc_open was disabled. Damn! I only use <references /> and infobox, but they save a lot of time and I can't do without them.
I posted a ticket which was responded to 12 hours later by an "After Hours Senior Technical Support Agent" who wondered whether cached pages were responsible for the proc_open error not disappearing as it should have seeing he'd TURNED OFF ERROR REPORTING!!
Second time I've said "Damn" in 12 months. So I responded to him telling him that PHP's "disable_functions" configuration directive no doubt contains a disable line for proc_open, but I couldn't check phpinfo to be sure as it's disabled (no argument about disabling phpinfo)
Back comes a reply from a female support staff member who has been really helpful up to now - "Proc_open is disabled in our shared servers for security reasons. Since your account is residing in a shared hosting we could not enable it only for your account because this will affect the other accounts as well. However, the site did show only a warning and which would not cause any harm".
Notwithstanding the desire to be helpful, now I'm getting a little frustrated. Both the Senior Tech Support guy and the lady support staff have totally missed the fact that the wiki is telling them proc_open is disabled with visible script errors and a definitive displayed reason, and for some unknown reason think it can be "fixed" by turning off error reporting! Further, Hostwinds offers Mediawiki as a Softaculous install.
Not wishing to waste the work investment put into this host move so far, I polled 5 of the big Hosts via their chat function and they all allow proc_open, going further I found one small host that didn't. The explanation one host gave me for not disabling proc_open which was echoed by the others was "we do not invest in quick fixes for security, we scrutinize all our servers intensively with a number of resources and procedures to stay on top of security, and secondly we would lose customer support for disabling their ability to run common programs" They were talking about a number of items, not just proc_open.
In summary I'm a bit disappointed that technical expertise isn't a little more exacting at Hostwinds, but in the end what php modules etc they allow is their commercial business, even if they're at odds with 5 big industry names.
Just to be sure before I abandon the Hostwinds move and write off the time invested in the move and go back to my former host (who are looking a bit better now in terms of expertise and what can be run on their servers), I'll do the owner the courtesy of a quick message on Skype.
Hope this review of my experience is helpful for those wondering whether to jump.

I'd just like to update my review, I contacted the owner of Hostwinds, Peter, who bent over backwards trying to resolve the situation. He enabled proc_open for our account but unfortunately there were still further problems getting Mediawiki to run.
Seeing it runs out of the box at the host we're endeavoring to change from, it made sense to waste no more time and return there for now.
Anyone with any teething problems at Hostwinds who finds that the support staff are unable to help them will get a good hearing with Peter.

My sites are working just fine, but haven't gotten a reply to my support ticket about replacing my base domain for the past 8 hours...
I apologize for the wrong information posted on thread about servers on 25-12-2013. I forgot to pay the invoice , so my account was deactivated. As soon as I paid the invoice, account got reactivated instantly. It was awesome service. thanks hostgator.
