Anyone else trying this - you will most likely need to re-activate. but hey.. All is good & working since

* 216.244.*.* is the OLD server. Our new IP is 192.169.68.74 and .75, along with several other IPs as we lease a range for our dedicated server. You see 216.244.*.* when you ping it, but it is actually the OLD one. DNS changes are still propagating unfortunately. If I ping the servers from my IP, I just receive host not found. Again, another illustration of the fact that DNS changes take time to propagate is the fact that we have different results.

Just for the record. -- YES it is functioning now ... for me at least by manually pointing a dns for several domains to the new name servers.

Hello everyone. Please understand that this is a catastrophic headache for you just as much as it is for us. We offer hosting for many clients, and Proxy Multiply is not the only software that we sell - everything is on hold currently.

To clarify some points mentioned above:

Can you confirm that someone has updated the DNS records for the-proxy-list.com too?

This is real-time. I'm pretty sure someone forgot to update the DNS records for the-proxy-list.com, and since that domain is the DNS for jrimsoftware.com (as well as itself) nothing is happening. You need to get on to 1&1 (or whoever administers your domain) and get them to change the DNS servers for the above domain to the new IP addresses.

I am not sure if my question was skipped over about using a different url as the proxy judge?

I don't consider a day or so of downtime anything significant, every software has an issue now and then.

It's only significant because I believe JRIM has been misled by his host that 'everything is fine' when, in fact, someone forgot to update the IP addresses of his DNS domain, which means it - in its current state - is never going to work. DNS propagation really does not take this long - especially when you query the DNS server directly.

As soon as someone updates the NS IP addresses for the-proxy-list.com, it should all start working within minutes.

Just trying to help here .. as I said, JRIM has been misled by his host that all is fixed.

Obviously the software is still not working - and won't until the problem with the-proxy-list.com is sorted.

As a work around, you can edit c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts and add the line

192.169.68.75 proxy.jrimsoftware.com

This will get the software to work by bypassing JRIM's DNS servers.

Hopefully, as soon as JRIM sees my message above, he'll get the IP addresses for his name servers updated, and all will be well again. I also sent him a PM yesterday.

Yes - me too. Not sure what the subdomain for the proxy judge is, so unable to add that to hosts file. Sucks :-(

We have contacted 1&1 administrators and informed them that despite us waiting the mandatory 48 hours, it is still not working properly. The information has been forwarded to their 'administrators' and it is awaiting a fix... AVOID 1&1 INTERNET SERVICE AT ALL COSTS! The customer service has been HORRIBLE. They refused to even work with us until the 48 hour period passed. We have not been given a definite time frame on the update, only told that it has been escalated to administrators - but don't hold your breath.

1&1 does not seem to want to acknowledge the urgency of this situation. Our highest priority once this all blows over is to transfer registrars - but that brings on the possibility of more downtime. Just a major catch 22 here.

Hi bigdaddy, the software is built-in to utilize our proxy judge @ the-proxy-list.com and cannot be modified. However, if you want to modify your hosts file as mentioned above: the proxy judge uses the-proxy-list.com for resolution, which is hosted on 192.169.68.74

Until you listen to this, you'll never get the problem solved, since you'll just wait forever for these imaginary DNS records to update.

If your name server is ns1.the-proxy-list.com and the IP address for that is registered as 216.244.72.162 (which it is) then Proxy Multiply is not going to work any more until you update that IP address

Mirrorman, the issue is being handled properly and I can assure you that the DNS changes were submitted to 1&1 two days ago. The A records have not been updated yet. As mentioned earlier, we have confirmed through our host and registrar that the DNS is configured properly (along with all other aspects of the issue); the only problem is propagation. While your ISP may be reporting 216.244.72.162 as the IP in response to ping, you should use another DNS checker (e.g. DNSSY) to verify the information. You can do so using this link: http://www.dnssy.com/report.php?q=ns1.the-proxy-list.com - the DNS records have not updated, and do not reflect 216.244.72.162.

Hey Det0nator, that is because our proxy judge queries a remote SQL database to figure out who is a customer and who isn't, which was slowing down proxy testing. The issue has been resolved.

Hey mirror, I understand that it is not working as it should, and so does our registrar. Did you look at the screenshot posted above with the DNS settings marked properly? We have done everything necessary on our end, and 1&1 is working on fulfilling their obligations.

The issue has been monitored and tightly managed over the last nearly 3 days, and 1&1 Internet has informed us that there is nothing more that can be done beyond escalating it to administration (which occurred yesterday, as a result of a phone call by us, as soon as we crossed into 48 hours after DNS change submission). We are awaiting a response from 1&1, and reminding them frequently that we are in dire need of a resolution.

I am glad you found a solution that works for you, but I don't think it's very courteous to pump a competitor in our sales thread.

So what does "check against a specific url" do?

Unfortunately just changing which IP the-proxy-list.com points to isn't going to specify any folder structure or judge file (I have azenv.php setup on a server for testing with other proxy softwares).

Hi bigd, updating the hosts file does fix proxy testing. The web server knows how to interpret requests for folder structures. Check against specific URL tries navigating to a specific website using the proxy (e.g. https://yahoo.com/ ) and looks for your specified text/content in the page it finds. If it finds the designated content, you reached the page, and the proxy can be used for that website.

As of 3:39 EST, The-proxy-list.com is back up. Jrimsoftware.com will follow shortly.

Oh very cool. I'm so glad I asked you about that. I am going to try setting the hosts file to use my own judge shortly. I'll definitely post if I get it to work.
