Note: I think OP could've done a better job with communication. A little strange that my link was placed in an article recommending one of my competitors, (lol) but I guess I'll take it. I'm probably the small minority of people that get annoyed by things like that, but I understand this is purely for the link juice and nothing more. A better written/more considerate article would've been 5 stars from me.

The site is genuine one and receives more than 10K traffic according to the Ahrefs although the actual traffic will be quite high since it has been approved by MediaVine ad network. It has legit about page and even getting updated regularly.
The site is basically a general parenting blog and has some articles related to the niche I provided. The link was placed within the article which is relevant to the site content and was updated somewhere around in December 2020.
Overall good work and definitely recommended.

You will always have to "split" the link juice with other sites, as every article has multiple links within it, so why not "stealing" that link juice from your direct competitor rather than a random other website?

That's how we think about that. In spite of that, I understand your point and I agree that I should have informed you in advance about our way of thinking regarding this and let you decide whether you want to go this route or not.
