I have a Twitter account with about 12,000 "friends". All of them added using automated methods. Now whenever I log in I receive a message that Twitter is over capacity. It doesn't matter what time of the day. I'm pretty sure the account is banned. Has anyone else had this issue and was there a way to work around it?

works fine for me atm. if your account gets banned they'll show you a message about it (at least thats what they did a month or 2 ago, not sure if they changed anything)

I think things may have changed. I get this message every time I log in. I can't even log out. I have to clear my cookies and cache just to do that. Anyone else with some Twitter advice?

I often get this message. I really don't understand how a company as huge as Twitter can afford using servers that so often get overloaded.

I'd say you're fine. Every time I've been banned, there's been a message displayed saying so.

I've had a similar issue over the last few weeks. Almost every time I try to use Twitter through the web, it says "That page does not exist" when I try to view tweets, followers etc. Everything works fine through mobile apps, hootsuite etc.

It seems to have worked itself out recently, though.

I have the same thing. I just cannot login to the Twitter account without getting the Over Capacity screen. I have tried it with Firefox / Chrome / Explorer... no difference. Also on different computers, no difference.

When I login to other twitter accounts, no problems.

And when I use the API to post tweets, also no problems. Like from Wordpress tweets go out (3 times a day), and from Seesmic I can send tweets. Just cannot login.

I can see the account when using another twitter-account. So it seems okay, not suspended / not disabled.

I must admit that I have not logged into this specific account for a while. I guess a month ago. And even Seesmic (alternative to Hootsuite) is not able to retrieve my previous tweets.

    What can it be??

I'm still getting the same message. I'm positive the account is banned. I log in and the message stays until I have to clear my cache to log out.

Fuck! I think I have the same thing. I have an account with about 6000 followers all from that followmeback type sites...not all. About 1000 of them are actually real.

I haven't used those sites in like three months, but everytime I log in, I get that over capacity screen. It's been like three days now. WTF!!

Try with a clean, different IP on an incognito browser session. I noticed that once it was a kinda legit error, you know, the likes of a 404 due to their scaling issues and shit...

Nowadays each time I get the error, I switch IP and the problem 90% of the time disappears. Therefore I see 2 possibilities here. They spanned their login servers across multiple geo-specific locations that would make perfect sense, so a node in Tulsa might get busy while one in, let's say Oakland might be good to authenticate you...

The other possibilty is that this is their weak attempt to put in place a "ghosting" mechanism by returning a disguised message each time a flagged IP attempts logging in...

Whatever it is, if you're banned twitter should be clearly saying so. Just try with a new IP with no twitter cookies and see if it helps.

Good news :D Well for me at least ;)

I am able to login / use twitter without the Over capacity screen. Do not know exactly why / how.

I think I was logged in the whole time. I just got the over-capacity screen... but I was logged in. So I was on a blog which allowed me to tweet their page. I did. And I got the popup where you can tweet the message + link. This worked.

So now I did this on different blogs. And on 1 blog I got a message after my tweeting saying ".... would like you to follow him / her". On this screen I was able to go to my "followers" page. So not the normal twitter homepage, but the followers page.

Then I went to settings and changed the password.

Now it works. :) Maybe this can help you too?

Same here. As of today I am no longer receiving the message. I went to Twitter and I was already logged in to my surprise. The only thing I did was disable a Wordpress Plugin that I had which was posting to Twitter "Network Publisher". That may have had something to do with it. It uses Links Alpha. I have had problems with other Twitter accounts in the past I set up with them.

I got this message sometime back with one of my account having 8K+ followers. However i got it working fine now. Don't know what happened then but can be due to their server badtime.

I get this message when trying to log in with Tweet Adder. If I go to another browser - the account is fine. If you're account is suspended, trust me, you'll get a suspended page, not the whale LOL
