Not sure about the security aspect but connecting your insta to FB allows you to automatically share content between them.
So if you upload an image to Instagram it would automatically upload it to Facebook as well.

If one account is compromised or deactivated, having both linked can simplify the recovery process through the other account.

Linking your FB account with ig is really useful. It can increase the security of your FB account. If your FB account is locked, you can go to ig to appeal.

I'm not sure if linking your instagram and facebook accounts together increases security. But if one of your accounts gets hacked, you'll lose both. Also, by linking your accounts like this, you can automatically post on both platforms at the same time.
