Percocet really kicks my ass.

Got all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed last week. They put me under. Not going to lie I hate the dentist and I was terrified going in.
I was out of it and tried to get the nurse to have a 3way with my wife and I when I had woken up. After being denied I tried to slip the nurse some money and asked her to bring my teeth to me so I could make a sweet tribal tooth necklace.
That didn't work either.


Anyway, after that wore off the pain set in and I had to get me some prescribed percocet. I want to make note that I RARELY take any kind of pills or medication unless I absolutely need it. I maybe take a advil or tylenol but maybe twice a year. I have a very low tolerance to that type of thing.


I've been taking a lot of this percocet to keep the pain at bay, and I can feel my heart beating oddly and breathing heavily and felt constantly buzzed. It makes me incredibly sleepy but I have too much work to do so I have to work through it.


Finally getting to the end of the pain and it is healing up, but I have this fear of "forgetting to breathe" while i'm sleeping after I take a pill.


How the hell do people live in a haze like this all the time? I don't see a problem with recreational drug use from time to time even..but damn people who make a daily habit of this stuff..idk how they do it!

I'm a recovering addict (more maintained than recovering tbo) so I'll answer this way.

Opiates are really weird in the respect they they are both sedating and stimulating. And this side effect profile changes over the long run. For instance, when I first took percocets I got that same groggy / fuzzy feeling. I think I went through 200-300 in a matter of months and never got addicted. Could not understand how people get addicted to that "feeling". There was no real euphoria and I didn't like being tired.

However, overtime synthetic opiates change in effect. I've noticed this with a lot of opiate addicts.

Morphine is always sedative. It never really changes it's side effect profile.
Codiene is always sedative. Never changes over time.

Percocet/oxys start off sedative but the longer you're on them the less sedated you become and the more stimulating / euphoric they are. Even as you develop a "tolerance" you get more of a clear, energized rush than that groggy, tired, drunk feeling.

If you speak to most oxy/perc addicts they get highly stimulated from a large dose. A lot of them talk about this change in effect. Like if I took 40mg of oxy with 0 tolerance I'd fall asleep and feel like shit. If I took it now I'd be running around the house, warm, fuzzy, happy, euphoric, with a clear state of mind.

Then there's methadone. Methadone is always sedating and never changes through addiction.

Suboxone is what I'm now. It's the most stimulating opiate I know of. And I've been on a real low dose for years now (.25mg/day). If I give this same dose to any of my brothers (2 have tried it before) they'll be completely fucked up, tired, will act drunk and be incapable of driving or operating anything. When I take my dose in the morning I get a subtle bolt of energy, warmth, clarity and happiness. That same bolt of energy is the reason why everyone who's addicted to this shit has sleep issues. Cause I can't sleep at night without it (withdrawals). But then when I take it I get stimulated. I can't feel fatigue.

The best way to explain it is like this. For non addicts, opiates usually lead to sedation. When they where off you get energy. For addicts, you get stimulation, when it wears off you get tired as hell. But not the type of "tired" where you can sleep. The longer you go without it, the more tired/depressed you get, at the same time you can't sleep at all. You start twitching, shaking, kicking, punching, sweating, vomiting, etc. If I stopped taking my sub right now I wouldn't sleep for the next 2-3 weeks straight. I'd get depressed as fuck. I'd be suicidal in a matter of days.

It's weird cause I've been "addicted" to many drugs. Meth, mdma, coke, pot, alcohol... but opiates are sneaky as fuck. You get off speed it's not much different than being on speed. The longer you're on the shit, the crazier you get, meth psychosis kicks in.... come off you feel just as crazy but just wanna sleep for months. Coke is similar to a lesser extent. Pot you just go from dumb and sedated to normal and sharp. Opiates are fucking hell though. No matter how long you're on them they always make you feel GOOD. There's no natural reverse tolerance at work. Like on speed the more I took the more I realized "I'm losing my mind I need to stop" lol. With opiates everything's just "cool". Until you stop and find yourself standing on a bridge lol.

Thanks for sharing your story. I've known people who were addicted to it but they were never really savory type of people I had lots of contact with.

Im glad I never became addicted to anything. I just hate the sedative feeling you talked about. It makes me anxious. This could stem from my incredible fear of death I have though. But that is a different story.

I hate that "forgetting to breathe" feeling. Like I'm not paranoid enough.

I take antidepressants and I try hard not to take anything else. If I'm in pain I stick with ibuprofen and vicodin.

But vicodin is sneaky. I will be sleep for 12 hours on that stuff. So it is reserved for certain times of the month when I'm in so much pain I want to disembowel myself. Otherwise, if it's like a bad headache that won't go away, otc stuff is fine.

I hate taking pills. They make me feel weird. But they're a necessary evil. Either I take them or I sink into a deep depression and kill myself. That's just life.

"forgetting to breathe" is called https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_nervous_system_depression. It's not gonna happen from a couple of percocets. That happens when you start mixing depressants like percocet and xanax or alcohol and anything. Alcohol is the killer when it comes to polydrug use.

Everyone is different. I promise you I get the feeling from only a couple of pills and nothing else.

It's a CNS depressant whether you take 1 or 20, so of course you have that feeling. But you're not gonna hear a death rattle unless you start abusing large doses or mixing with alcohol or other CNS depressants.

I had percocet when I had my wisdom teeth out and I know what you mean. Vicodin, Lortabs, none of that stuff does anything to me but percocets kicked my butt.

Hmm. Maybe I should stop taking my morning antidepressant with tequila.

I don't like going to the dentist as well, which is why I stopped going entirely. I've had almost nothing but bad experiences at the dentist, a couple of the worst ones were when I was younger such as the time:

• I had 4 molars removed by a dentist who didn't use enough anaesthesia; it felt exactly like someone was ripping my teeth out.
• The dentist didn't want to remove my braces (which were supposed to be removed the year prior) even though the brackets were falling off and the hire was stabbing my cheek. They felt that it "wasn't their responsibility".

The last years that I went, they did nothing but try to sell me products I didn't need for things that magically went away on my next visit (e.g., headgear for bruxism, but on my next visit they said I didn't have bruxism). I keep my teeth as clean as possible at home now just so that I never have to go back to another dental office in my life.

I'm not surprised you had bad experiences. Dentists aren't as trustworthy as they want us all to believe. Bastards.

Percoset is Oxycodone and Tylenol.
Loretab is Hydrocodone and Tylenol;

Both come in doses like 5/325, 7.5/325, 10/325.

I have a bottle of Percoset on my desk and bottle of liquid Loretab in the refrigerator. I see no difference in the two outside of the name. They both do the job.

I've never done percocet, but I've known peoples whos lives have been ruined from addiction to them. Apparently Madchild from Swollen Members spent four years of his life with a percocet/oxycontin addiction:

2 years and 8 months clean from oxy. Opiates are both amazing and the devil.

ever been tested for sleep apnea? opiates are contraindicated in peeps with sleep apnea as the "forgetting to breathe" sensation could actually b real.....
