It makes me so sick, that they bid for anything, without even reading the description!!! Sometimes I post a project which takes 2 minutes to read and I have an offer within 10 seconds. A bid for an amount of days that doesn't even make sence. Even if I need someone living in LA to do something for me, I get offers from guys living in India...seriously?

They make money on quantity not quality. You can't do anything with their strategy but that's annoying.

You get what you pay for. Freelancer and Elance are pure garbage in my opinion. Complete waste of time if you are trying to find a decent freelancer. Odesk is a little bit better. Just place a free ad on Craigslist, you will get better results.

There are some very smart people on those websites...who work for peanuts compared to programmers in developed countries, delivering the same quality. BUT its really hard to find them, because most people are useless there. But once you find the good ones, its like winning in a lottery. :-D

Elance (from experience) is filled with cheap buyers hiring cheap "freelancers". 98% are from the middle east and I've YET to see an Illustrator who can compete with me. They get hired anyway since the mass-accepted version of Quality has gone down the shitter.

Did you get offered YT views? Or FB likes? They always offer the same things no matter what your project is :D

a lot of them automate the messages and just post the same thing on every new job posting that comes up. they are too lazy to read and post a proper bid.

I've had some very crappy experiences on odesk, trash workers

Somewhere in the job description put a "magic keyword" ie. GUITAR and at the end of the job description put "write magic keyword before your job proposal" those who write the magic keyword (GUITAR) in their application advance my hiring process, I delete applicants who can't even follow simple directions. It's how I feather thru my hiring process and get quality workers.

Cheers

I think some of them have created bots that automatically apply for anything that comes up in their chosen category. I like the idea of including a "secret word" in the job description. It will help you sift through the cr*p.

I think freelancer is covered with bots, you get automated responses
As i posted explaining video in my job description and every one posted offers without even mentioning if they have seen video
Whereas i got genuine offers in Elance
And now i mostly use elance for getting things done

Maybe everyone wants to do some work for making money that's why they bid from any country

sorry but this is not correct. i have found very good coders for cheap prices there which know exactly what to do and which are very friendly. they are there on these sites. you just need to find out who they are. thats my opinion. thank you

ahem... sure, prob outsource their work
somewhere else and bank big on it.

freelancer / wf -- it's all the same now!
advertise on either site, whichever is cheaper.
