If a site gets slapped (not deindexed) is it possible to gain rankings again?

iv lost rankings pretty dramatically for most keywords but some have only dropped around 3/4 places whilst 3 keywords have dropped 20+ places.

Does this mean the site has been penalised or does it mean because of other sites that possibly have better links have just simply moved ahead of me and I could regain them rankings?

i don't really want to waste any time trying to get my rankings back if it's not possible as the 3 keywords that have dropped are very difficult keywords.

Have you tried some wiki backlinks, or if you are using some backlinks software like GSA to change the spun article
 
Very much doubt wiki links is going to help my situation.

What I have noticed though is many of the sites on the first page are pretty much new and one even have 96k back links and it's only a month old! Although only 3% is anchor text. Maybe they have targeted anchor text more than anything this time
 
Unlikely but possible. You can try slowly building and removing links over the next 6 months - until they roll out another Penguin and update their serps, or make a new site.
 
I have a site that was hit by Penguin. I know this because rankings were wiped out on exactly the 24th of April 2012 when Penguin was released. I spent a lot of time and money on the site and now finally over a year later it looks like rankings are increasing in huge chunks since a few days ago.

So that is the kind of timeline you may be looking at with Penguin.

True. Unless your penalized site has thousands of pages, you should just move on to a new domain. Not worth the investment and effort to recover a penalized site. Difficult to do, but possible if you are willing to spend a LARGE amount of time.
 
Having had a lot of sites on page one and getting slapped by google several times I have learnt to only submit 100 submissions a day not including verified link which comes naturally if you drip feed them. 96 k links in a month is not natural from the eyes of google I would start with 100 a day and see how tht goes. Have you tried GSA ser for backlinks its very good.
Where are you getting the 96k links as well may be a factor, just my thoughts
 
You have lost your ranking for some reason, Try to find that reason and remove it. My 3 sites have been hit during the last update, But slowly two of them regained their position.
 
I would get the site deindexed, maybe buy an aged domain with a few authority backlinks and put all your content over on that one.
 
He hasn't lost all rankings, they haven't been "wiped out" he's just had a drop, some a few spots, some 20+..... you've been slapped mate. Of course you can build more and better links and start to recover rankings, just like you did when you first ranked them. Remember to keep your anchor text in check. If your keywords had been dropped 100+ across the board, then you have some very serious problems. This is rank reshuffling based on the new update. 20 spots is nothing. So what you're on page 3 or 4 now? Solid links from solid sites will get you back steadily over time.
 
even if you fix the issue with backlinks, you will not get your penalty removed until next animal roll-out.
 
you will spent more money and time for recovering than ranking new
 
Remove All Links If Possible And Build Some Quality Contextual Links Links May Be You Recover In Next Refresh..
 
Maybe most of your links built on sites that are hit by the update, which devalue those links. You should build some new type of links and try them out. Also, if you links are from bad neighbors, ranking drop shouldn't be a surprise.
 
clone, 301 and start building new links (low anchor ratio to both sites)
 
I got the exact same dilemma.
All main kw dropped 7 - 12 spots from Page 1 to Page 2.

Should be easy to recover if it wasnt the fact I may have to wait 6 months or longer for next refresh.
 
Matt Cutts talks about their "attacks" on black hat links and such.. perhaps your links are coming from a network they are looking negatively at.. Is all your anchor txt the same ? Try changing up the anchor txt.. in the links.. to avoid another pitfall.
