[Penguin update] How I recovered my position

Hi,

penguin killed my sites.

I 'm making some tests and wanna share with you. Gotta a site on medium competitive keywords that is penalized by penguin.

How I know? On 24 april it drops from #3 to #50+ position. I made a reconsideration request. An automated email tells me there is not a manual penalty.

I made some change to my site, change menu link anchor text, change keyword density from 4,83% to 2,50%. Today my site is back on first page, in #10 position.

I'm not sure this will work for everyone, but probably this is a way...

In the next days I will try this for other domains and I will update this post.

So your theory is it was flagged as being poorly spun content because you used your target keyword too often?
 
dont believe the hype no change same as all that panda shit, unique content is the key
 
Yes, I think google doesn't like your keyword is used too many times.
 
My content is unique and well written, no spun article.

I got hitted and was a bit frustrating. Because my content was considered like keyword stuffing.

I'm not telling this is the solution, but probably this could help more webmaster that were hitten
 
It is possible. What I didn't understand from the Distinguished Engineer's exposition is he appeared to think spin & stuff was intended to rank when it's just there as litter around backlinks.
 
I think many people are concentrate on offpage factors, but probably Matt Cutts was intending the stuffing and spun content on page of money site, not page that are made to build link.

Probably with this update spun article and link are devaluated as shit, but if you have original content your site should rank.
 
Only homepage. I made some change to menu too.
 
Hmm... one of my sites was hit, that had all unique content, but when using SpyGlass I do see that a ton of my backlinks had my main keyword as anchor text. I think maybe thats why my site got drilled, not sure how to fix that though...

My site was drilled the day Penguin was released, and then slowly started to climb back up. last night I had 14 keywords ranking in google in the top 100, this morning for some reason all but 2 dropped out. This really stinks :-(
 
At the same time some members see their pages are back without changing a thing, perhaps just a coincidence... but interesting.

Did it come back stronger or same as before?
 
If you were talking to me, my site did not come back to full potential, only to maybe 50% of where it was visitor wise, but as of this morning I lost all of my vistors. The site was getting 75-100 uniques a day before penguin, then dropped down to about 20 a day, slowly worked back up to 40 a day. After this morning though, the day is almost over and ive only had 2 visitors
 
You inspired me to change the keyword density on my site. At this point, I will try anything. Just threw a quarter in a fountain, hoping this works out...
 
Before I was #3, now back to number #10. I wanna wait a week to see if come back to #3 without changing anything.

To trizzypballr: I where in your same situation, you could just try to decrease keyword density if is more than 3%. Just try
 
Probably is your link structure that appear unnatural. You could try to use anchor in the menu links that not use the keywords, but looks more informative and natural.
 
i agree my sites got hit, alot of them were blasted with sb etc, what i did is went in and lowered the keyword dens, deactiveted all my seo plug ins, its was a week later and all my sites came back, also did this with i site i havent seen in months, and bang week later there it is, im going to try this with one more site and see but out of 10 site they have all came back, so i think the peguine update is more on page optimization then links as i said my site were blaster with senuke, sb, wikis and i also run no hands on them
 
hire good content writer and write unique content with using keyword, you should be use Meta description in 150-160 char, 10 keyword and title in 68 char, Keyword optimization are very important.
