I want to know how effective EMDs are now with the new update.

Keyword info:
Exact Monthly Searches: 1600
Competition assessment: 1st page: First 2 sites are authority sites with PR 7, then google local search (it's a local niche)
2nd page: #1: Authority Site same as page 1
#2: PR1 site
#3: Authority Site
Others are PR 0 or 1

The authority sites are directories of course. I want to try to hit page 2 for now as page 1 seems pretty tough given what I've heard about the effectiveness of EMDs since the update.

EMDs are not dead by any means! Even after Penguin, 15 of the 18 EMDs I own have held onto their positions. The 3 that lost their rankings had too little content on them less than 10 pages each. My experience says that if you build a site on an EMD domain, you would do well to have great quality content (at least 50 unique articles), which are fed to the system in a phased manner or drip-feed as it is popularly called, over a period of 60-75 days. Simultaneously, set up 5-10 Ping.fm accounts and use a new one each day to promote one or two pages of your site along with at least 6-10 random pages from authority sites broadly related to your niche. You must take care and not use any of your main keyword to promote your site's inner pages or for that matter pages from any other site as well ;-) Best is to use the Post/Page Title.

You will get to see positive results within 15-20 days for sure! :-)

i just created an EMD 30k searches per month, within a week im in rank 4th.

IMHO, if you optimized your EMD domain well, it will rank good even with various algorithm updates launched by G

Make at least 10 emd's before jumping to conclusion. For me EMD's work the same as before

Penguin had nothing to do with EMDs.

EMDs are good for SEO but not branding, BHers like EMDs for the quick gains, but legit sites use brandable domains. So with Penguin, EMDs got hit disproportionately because BHers use them more.

I've done this many times since the initial Penguin update as well. ;) EMD's work great, if you know what you're doing. If you don't link build properly, then they won't rank. Focus more on learning correct link building, and not on the EMD.

EMD's absolutely work just as well as they did before Penguin. In fact, I think they actually work BETTER post Penguin.

After Penguin was released I saw many, very low quality, EMD's skyrocket in the rankings. These are domains with very little backlinks created and even little or no original content at all.
