It is funny to see everybody going nuts over ever Google update. Yes, things shift a bit but it isn't ending the SEO business and just as there was no way to "bitch slap" Panda for sure I doubt that there is some key that can unlock crazy easy rankings in Penguin. Hard work is always the key to success. That and persistence.

I think Google gives these updates cute names and announces them out loud is so that SEO people go nuts, waste their time trying to analyze it and openly talk about what they plan to do for counter-measures.

Take a deep breath and calm down lol. And lets get back to business as usual around here ;)

Agreed. This is when everything everyone keeps saying comes into play; read and understand what people are saying, respond accordingly......make bank. This is when money is made, during CHANGE.

Go to 8th page and see 2nd result there. A direct Bing result in google.
Now this is funny. :)

Has any Google update a month on ever been as bad as it seemed at first?

Things will settle.
 
I just only hope that google fix the problem with ranking shity sites on page one.

But everything else is in normal. Someone gets slapped, but that because of some bad backlinks or articles. The results are still the same from the very first panda update.

So the rules stays still the same. If you have really quality articles, quality backlinks and good on page seo, there is everything OK :)
 
I also think this algo change was made to discourage SEO.

It might be in correlation with the recent FTC antitrust investigation:

U.S. Senators have written to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission about their concerns over Google's Internet monopoly. Google executives did themselves no favors when the Senators looked at Google's business practices in September. When asked if Google has monopoly in online search, Google chairman Eric Schmidt is quoted as saying 'I would agree, Senator, that we are in that area.' Another worrying quote is from Marissa Meyer, Google's VP of location services, who said that it was 'only fair' that Google put its own sites on higher placements than competitors. The Senators are also warning that Google is only facing one real competitor (PDF), Microsoft's Bing. Almost all other metasearch engines use either Google or Bing technology to deliver search results, including DuckDuckGo which uses Bing.

I find it interesting that Webmaster Help responds instantly and repeatedly to comments on the audio quality of this video on Youtube - but they haven't found it necessary to address any of the 800 negative comments on their Official Webmaster Central Blog for a week...
 
I completely agree with the OP and our hard work will surely give us positive results.
 
I believe what really got them in trouble was how they were using the Google + button and it's likes etc to rank sites. They seem to have since reversed the way they gave big jumps to sites with a G+ button and tons of likes. I think it was looked at like Google was strong arming sites into using the stregnth of Google search to force sites to want to add a Google + button so they could compete better with Facebook.
