Usually my website fluctuates between #4 and #5. Well for the past week or so it shot up to #4 and remained there until maybe last night. Last night it dropped to #6 and now it's at #7. I see about 3-4 low quality sites on the front page that are NEVER there so I'm thinking it's all the after-effect of an algo. refresh.

I built about 10-20 .EDU/.GOV contextual links lately and sent about 300 social bookmarks to them as tier2, plus ran the bookmarks through lindexed to get the posts indexed a few days ago. So I want to say it's a Google Dance, but usually during a dance I at least see the site "dancing" back and forth, my site's just shooting more and more downwards. Thoughts?

probably it is a dance, as if it was a penalty you would have dropped to nowhere

give it some time like a week..

I've had a similar thing with a site of mine, was up to 6th, then dropped to 8th, 9th, 10th, today - 18th.

There are also results showing that I haven't seem before, including some really crap foreign domain extensions.

I wouldn't worry with small fluctuations within page 1, this can vary a lot, especially with localized results, dances, etc. Like others said, I'd start worrying if you went from #4 to nowhere.

Somebody building tiered links to their SAPE or similar 1st tier links.
It's easy to finf your private network links in Majestic SEO - then yiou can power them up even more for the keywords you are after - however - this means that (as they are often PR6 or PR7 authority sites themselves) they "leapfrog" the target site...for a week or two - before settling back down.

Might not be this - but I've seen this happen and odd foreign extensions (old Soviet Union like "Georgia" .ge and "Kazakstan" .kz etc)

Scritty

A few backlink lost maybe :) i get a few drop when a few my backlink is lost

Thanks, that makes sense. One was a .sg - never seen one of those in Google.co.uk before.

small update:

a day after I made this thread I went back up to #4 and remained there until maybe yesterday. I started building more high authority backlinks (and quickly indexing them by sending 50-100 or so social bookmarks+lindexed).

Some new backlinks I made were indexed recently (a couple .gov forum profiles from other countries and some .edu contextuals) and last night my first keyword dropped to #8 (previously #4), and my other keyword (was #5) is nowhere to be found right now. I'm chalking most of it up as Google Dance but I will update as time goes onward.

Thanks for the responses.
