Penalty + 301 redirect

Hi bhw fam,

I wanted to ask, if I have a site that the main page was taken down due to DMCA, but there where no manual penalties placed as per my search on GSC, if I 301 redirect that site, will the new url be DMCA quickly? or will the new url just get all the link juice.


Another question, if I did 301 redirect it and a penalty or negative effect passes through.. if then I remove the 301 will everything be okay again?

If you redirect a site that got DMCA'd, the new one might face similar issues; removing the redirect could help fix any problems that arise.
 
Yes, as @gregstereo said when redirect the new URL will inherit link juice from both which may cause the DMCA issue. removing the redirect is the only way to fix this issue.
 
I've seen piracy sites instantly rank for the same keywords with 301 redirect to new domains. But nothing is reliable as far as Google is considered. Their policies change based on your traffic potential.
 
You need to use bridge domain. For example, you should redirect (A) domain, which is fucked up one, to (B) domain, which is bridge, to (C) domain, new one. So, all those toxic shit will be stuck in bridge domain. Otherwise, normal 301 won’t work, like it used to.

It might not cause the same issue on the new site, but it's better to fix the problem first; if you remove the redirect later, it might not completely solve any issues that popped up

Hi thank you mate, how can I fix the DMCA? now that domain is empty with the dmca request, no site exists... is there a way I can now remove the dmca and then do the 301?

thank you looking now to see if there is a way to remove the DMCA since the domain is now empty (site deleted from that domain) then once the DMCA is removed I will 301 if that works.

Yes I have also done this many times but this is the first time my home page is recieving a DMCA and got removed from serps so trying to find the best way to work around this

Thank you mate that is another good Idea I will keep in mind :)
 
Also if you improved the current website with redirecting some domains then try changing those to directly point to new domain (instead of keeping them the same and just redirecting the affected domain to new one). This way you are just improving the worth of your new domain with old ways and skipping the affected site to point to your website. If those redirections helped your old website in ranking then those might help the new one too.

You can try to file an counter notice with the hosting provider regarding the DMCA issue. Once the issue is solved and the content is restored you can try implementing the 301 redirects.
