Penalised Expired Domains

Hi

I just bought some expired domains. 7 of them and 4 appears to be penalised, meaning they are next to useless.
Upon checking them here at ismywebsitepenalized.com, as mentioned above 4 seems to be killed.
They have nice mozz metrics and more than 10tf and less than 20tf.
I even checked them with site command, some of them were deindexed, but I didn't really pay attention to this.
Regarding the website above, two of my expired domains I bought in February were indicated two be penalised.
Out of curiosity, I added them to different GWT accounts, and in 5 minutes I got the message that manual action were taken for both domains.
Fuck yes.
How do you determine if an expired domain is fine?
These 7 domains had no history in archive.org.

How can you get really good domains? I'm hesitant to throw more money at expired domains.

Would you throw in these appear to be penalised domains to new gwt accounts just for checking?

I see. How do you determine if a site is penalised or not?
Other than watching it disappearing from serps and g index?
with expired domains, it's so difficult to decide as a noob

i've had my first google employee visit one of my website
i'm sure they're gonna deindex it
google isp and even from california
reverse lookup makes me think it was surely a bribed genius
chrome 40 and windows 7
smells like deindexation time

statcounter highlisted this little visitor for me
time to move on I guess

Two off the top of my head.

- Look at back link profile.

- Stay away from sites with no history in archive.

I just buy expired domains which were non commercials before. Then I am sure that no weird SEO did any weird SEO thing. Also no owner drop + branded anchor profile. My last 10 PBNs or so all boosted my rankings. But of course these domains are more expensive.

I just want to keep it simple
Hosting is a difficult thing to decide
There was a fine man around here, called alex, who only used shared hosting even for single domains
cant imagine how he handled all this stuff
he probably had a web api access to registrars and a host he did business with
and he has his own private toys to go fetch domains and archive.org
not bad
people say free hosts arent reliable
000webhost has a veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyy bad reputation
i run a url shortener test site on there and they shut it down after 1,8k "clicks", 99% crawlers due to cpu restrictions lol
i wouldnt trust wordpress.com for hosting simple domains there

once you have your hosting thing figured out (hostnine reseller)

Then a free option to handle posting to multiple sites would be wordpress.com via the jetpack plugin. Yes its a foot print, but if your starting off small like 5-10 sites then this "more than likely" wont hurt you. Your gonna want to upgrade to a private script or some management software down the road. You can manually post to every site with out logging in to every site esc. Go play with it you'll see.

Search the website main brand / keyword and should be in top 3 or at least page 1. If no where to be found then that is an indicator. Eg conversehealthcare.org...... search 'converse health care'. If you dont see it on page 1 then its prob penalised.

Also as mentined check archive.org and the backlinks anchor text.

You should use this command site:mydomain.com if nothing is found then it is 99% certain that the domain is penalized, and use wayback archive if you see chinese content, adult content, viagra etc, then is is penalized also you need to check anchor text spam in majesticseo if you lots of keyword spam then its penalized domain.

Don't listen to those above who state that zero results using the site: command or searching for the brand name of the domain is a bad thing. With expired domains - that is domains that expired a long time ago - they almost certainly will not be in Google still. This is not a sure sign of penalisation as has been suggested and in fact I get most of my domains this way.

There is no sure fire way to check whether a domain has been penalised - what you need to do is check the backlink profile for dodgy anchor texts, look at the "top pages" reports to see if there are any pages such as /cheap-viagra-by-post.html showing up and look at archive.org. If there are no records in archive.org then it might be a sign that a previous owner has blocked it using robots.txt but this is probably only true in a minority of cases. If you want to get really smart, you could pay for Whois history to see how many different owners the domain has had and whether any of them used privacy (a sign that the domain might have been used for a PBN previously which would match with the blocking of archive).

The one thing that sticks in my mind throughout is - have you actually tried to index these domains? Have you put a site up with content? If not, why not?

I'm still looking for hosts
I've got a very decent domain of a teenage sports club, and they had shit loads content on their site, however archive.org doesn't return all pages
they've got 6 records over a period 15 months
I'm gonna put the domains up to indexation, too, to see if they are indexable

Good point for domains expired a long time ago. Personally i only register domains about to expire so guess for expired and no longer on the index....that does not count.

Just go through all the standard spam checks, there are a few threads talking about it here on the forum. Also the site you are using probably isn't the best resource.

PM me if you're stuck. Yes, domains no longer in the index can be reindexed.

In short just stay away from domains with no history ...

If history is clean and backlinks are good then go with it
