I am working on a new site that will have 100's of PDFs, and want to ensure that I get the most out of my SEO efforts.
So what I am doing:
I will be using no-index on the WordPress media page.
On every page that I post the PDF, I am posting a short summary(200-500 depending upon other page content).
I am making a page dedicated to each PDF, with a short summary, including an onpage reader of the PDF file.

What am I missing?

I will have plenty of other content, but this is a site built around heavy sharing of PDFs to professionals.

IN testing the first 500 words of a PDF - essp the first 2 pages - are vital in SEO terms.
PDFs are fantastic at ranking sites that would normally be in what Google sees as academic or complex niches ) check page one of Google for anything academic and you'll see PDF's flying alongside WIKI pages and really specific geeky forum posts)

SEO that first page or two hard. Ensure it's unique. Make it readable - most PDF s are but some have imagetext and Google struggles with that. Make sure when you click drag your mouse over the text that each line shows up rather than a whole rectangle of imagetext.

Good luck. Nice tactic.

How you going to monetize this with what education books and video sales

Are you going to do the old days like torrent sheering one up one down .

If they upload thay can download

Rememer test every upload as a scam or infection till checked properly use as much securty uploading cheeks as possible ....

No uploading by others, but they can email their study/white paper if they want. So, nothing like a torrent site.
This site will have free PDFs and videos, it will also have other free things, like a calendar of niche specific events gathered from many sources.
How I will monetize is niche affiliate ads, and several SaaS offers with recurring.

Some keywords are 3 pages of PDFs in this niche, and from what I've seen most are imagetext, which is why I figured I could do well here.
Thanks for tip on optimization of first 2 pages.

OP would you mind posting how your projects goes. Very interested in following your project. Are you using mass uploader for all the pdf? Site will need login to download and such or the information is free to access? Where did you source the pdf from? Sorry for the questions, but I have very little experience with PDF's hence very interested.

There will be a journey once I square up all the little things.
Not using mass uploader, simply one at a time, so each summary is carefully written.
The PDFs will be available for free view/download, no logins for them.
Some I have written, some were downloaded from various sites like educational instiutions, or industry white papers from major players, so sort of everywhere.

Thanks for the detailed reply :) I will keep an eye out for your thread. Uploading manually is best, though very time-consuming. You are putting lots of manual effort into your project. I'm sure you will rock it. Goodluck.
