It's a backlink inside a PDF file. PDFs allow you to add hyperlinks in documents using the /URI (https: //yourdomain.com) syntax, but these are not stored like a HTML link - the anchor text is stored as an annotation. In my tests they do show up in GSC reports, and Googlebot does follow them, but whether they can pick up anchor text at all I'm not sure of. Googlebot, or a secondary crawler would have to render the pdf, extract the link rectangle coordinates, extract the text within that rectangle, and match them.

PDF backlinks are basically links that get put inside PDF documents which you then upload to document-sharing, or file-hosting platforms. If search engines end up indexing the PDF, then people can hit those links and land on your site. For SEO, they have limited impact all by themselves. in general they’re best used as a supportive move within a bigger link-building plan , not something you should depend on if your goal is rankings.
while PDF link get crawled they generally make por indicator alone. see them as auxiliary footprint links not primary SEO signals, unless they are accompanied by backlink that provide a strong context.

PDF backlinks are the links that are placed inside PDF documents that are uploaded to websites that allows public PDF sharing. When someone opens the PDF then they simply click the link and visit to your website.
Previously many people use PDF backlinks for for SEO because some PDF sharing sites has good authority. These days they can still help with indexing, diversity and occasional referral traffic but I would not rely on them as a major ranking factor. They work best as a small part of larger backlink strategy.

the backlink in the PDF documnt are nothing but the link placed inside the PDF document uploaded on the sharing site. while these backlink could be indexed they don't have any ranking value at all.

Do you have any data on this? As I'm meant to be performing a study on their value, but things keep coming up. Any info from your prior tests would be great.
