Are pdf backlinks any good ? I mean from pdf directories like scribdb etc..

There is a very good post on google blogs about this very question. Someone proved that Google do rank them may be not as much as web content, but certainly they pass PR, that's for sure.

If you are looking for basic SEO, you would better do some blog comments and article submissions, but if you really want to go that extra mile, sure, pdf links do count.

They're the new "hot" thing as far as I can tell. Haven't used them much but that's just because I don't like manual work *hint*

Convert to PDF with Nitro PDF. Upload PDF to as many PDF directories as
you can.

If you use OpenOffice, it also provides the ability to export files into PDF
