Actually mac os x is much more closer to the open source environment (due to it's *nix heritage).
Windows is more proprietary than Mac in that sense.
So unless you're comparing it to Linux distro, windows is the actual prison (forced updates etc. lol)
I am not an apple fan boy. But my macbook air set me back by a grand and any windows alternative that is as portable and still offers great battery life would have cost me more than the MBA. This is true at least in India.
I absolutely hate iOS though. I am android only when it comes to smartphones.
