PBN - Relevance VS Authority/PageRank

This is probably a noob question, but I was hoping someone with some experience will be kind enough to help me out.

So I have been accumulating domains from Flippa / GoDaddy auctions and a few other places for my private blog network. I used to only go for high PR and DA sites, but after everyone started going on about how relevancy is king, I decided that I would start to pickup lower ranked sites that are super relevant to my niche (by lower rank I mean PR of 0-2 and DA of between 10 and 30).

So far I have picked up around 15 of these highly relevant low PR sites (see screen grab) they don't cost much so i'm not too worried if they don't provide much value.

So my question is this - What am I better off buying for my PBN:
  1. Buy super niche relevant domains for chump change, but with pretty average stats. Then returning them to their former glory and get a relevant/cheap link back to my site (most of these I can get for $10-$25).
  2. Buying high PR/DA sites and either rebuilding it or doing a 301 redirect. (More expensive)
  3. Buying high PR/DA sites and changing the content to be super relevant and linking back to my site - I assume this would raise a lot of red flags?

Obviously getting niche relevant high PR/DA sites would be ideal, however they are few and far between, so I have not included this as an option.

Any helpful advice would be much appreciated.

Relevancy is totally over rated.

Just buy the strongest domains and put relevant content on it.

If you always try to find "niche relevant" domains, it will take you FOREVER to build your network.

So option #3. And no, in my experience I have not had issues with this.
 
I think best way is to make a site like news site so it will allow you to post articles on different topics...of course if domain is something like chicagoinsurance.com you cant really post articles on weight loss...from my understanding you have to create PBN in order to pass manual review so make it as natural looking as possible

+1 to this.

Just recreate the old, most linked to pages, on the most valuable domains, then point the conent in the direction that is best for your niche!
And slip in that contextual homepage link back to the money site ;)
 
Thanks for the suggestion guys. I think I might go back to the way I was doing things with the high PR sites, as I know that works well.

It might still be worthwhile to see the type of ranking increases I can get with these average sites with high relevancy. If anything it should make my PBN look more legitimate by having some lower ranked sites that are niche relevant.

You can also build up some of those lower ranked sites..Do some link buidling to them and over the time they will gain authority and pass link juice to your money site...What hosting do you use when buidling your network ??
 
High PR beats relevancy
but what you really want is both
then you will kill it

Yeah, I always build links back to my network sites to help them pass juice.

For hosting I actually have around 10 different hosting providers that I use to host my sites (none of them are SEO hosting). There are some ok cheap hosts like Hawkhost, VentraIP, 1and1 etc etc which I use. If I want to diversify my IP's then I also utilise a couple of free hosting companies for my tier 1 sites. Most free sites have their issues, but if you only want them to pass link juice then who cares. The only thing I would reccomend when using free hosting, is to try and setup static sites rather than Wordpress/Joomla sites as I have found that they tend to have far fewer issues.

Finding both is quite the task. So far I have only found 1 niche relevant high PR site that I could have bought, and it ended up going for over $400 on GD auctions. There is no way I am paying that kind of money for 1 site. I would rather grab a different PR5 site and make it relevant.

If you know how to take a domain from zero to amazing with link building... then the first. I don't, so I don't do that.

My PBN are old, LEGITIMATE websites from LEGITIMATE places. #3 is my strategy. I buy extremely good domains. But you don't get the option to pick within your niche here, unless you're in certain major niches. These domains are usually for brands, and so you don't really have a choice in the matter - but if it is a strong enough brand, it doesn't matter at all.

You know what: it works. If you got a manual check you'd have to put a lot of effort into creating a website that hides it. Your content doesn't need to be relevant to your domain name though as long as no one manually checks your site.

Warning: these domains will cost you hundreds to thousands of dollars.
 
Relevancy doesnt matter at all. Biggest myth in SEO and what holds back most people from actually ranking in Google.

I havent worried or cared about relevancy in linkbuilding ever and make a fulltime, very comfortable and reliable income from SEO.

Google doesnt have the resources for reliable relevancy analysis.
