Hey guys. I wanna ask how you choose your PBN websites. I mean when the website is worth buying or registering? I easly can register website with 20+ TF and 20+ CF but this means nothing to me. What I care are links. Most of them have 10-20 domains but in 90% cases they dont have homepage backlinks. Or if they have it's only like 1 homepage BL. Do I expect too much? I wish they would have 20-30 Referring domains andike 10 homepage backlinks. Thanks for info

You're right to be choosy about your pbn domains. I also agree with you about TF - it is such a poor metric it is almost a joke. Use ahrefs to get a true picture of what's going on with a domain.

If you're finding good domains with internal page links, then consider rebuilding the internal pages and drop your links on that page. It will mean you can make your homepage look far more natural by not even having any outbound links on your homepage.

A domain does not need a homepage link to be worth buying, homepage links are pretty rare.

I look for at least 5 15+ TF contextual links from good domains and low obls

Another rule of thumb i seen mentioned on the internet is if all the links add up to 100+ TF its worth buying.

If you do this though you have to redirect all old pages back to the homepage or rebuild them in the same location, otherwise you will get no benefit from the links.

You also need to be careful with how many pages are redirected. The owners of EBN recently noticed that pbn's with a lot of 404's that were being redirected to homepage by 301 are far more likely to be deindexed. It appears G does not like to see thousands of page redirects on a site.

I usually look for at least 30-40 ref domains and contextual links from authority sources. I dont rely on TF as others mostly because I've seen it fail more than a few times valuing links from awesome sources as tf5-6.

DA/ PA/ TF/ CF are crap stats in my opinion. If they were any good then i wouldn't need to analyse back link profiles of each domain, but you still have to do that. So what's the point of them? You can use them as a starting point, but in my experience, these stats end up disappointing me.

First thing i check when I buy domains is their history through Wayback Machine. You need to make sure the domain hasn't been used as PBN before. Then I check their index status. More pages indexed the better. Third, I run the domains through SEMRush to check if they're ranking for any keywords. More the better. I believe the domain history and its historic ranking is even more important than the backlink profile.

I move onto backlinks only if i'm satisfied with the domain historic status. Make sure the domain don't have any backlinks generated through GSA or PBN's.

Also, I wouldn't rely too much on third party metrics like TF/CF and DA/PA. Even the PR which is not updated any more is better than third party metrics.

    Regards,
    Rait

I hope that xenoxen won't mind If I add one more question here, let's say you have a new site to add to pbn, I wanted to ask about time span from site creation till start of posting content with links to money sites, whats the best practices.

I 301 all 404's on all my PBN sites and dont have any problems.

Also you can look on majestic and see what pages have links pointing to them. Most of the time only 5 pages actually have any good links pointing to them so you can just 301 those 5 urls instead of all 404's.

Some people post content with no links then after 1-2 weeks post content with links.

As soon as you get the hosting up on the site you should post content, you dont have to wait for that.

Domains with 5-200 Referring domains with 10+ TF are fine IMO but I make sure that the domains were not penalized by checking their whois records. Also, I check their history and backlink profile if they were spammed/abused previously.

Use ExpiredDomains.net to verify the minimum Moz Domain authority and Majestic Trust Flow for the website you want to buy. This website provides free information about various domains. It helps in finding domains to registering expired domains. In a way, this is key to building your PBN.

In fact, as soon as I see more than 1 homepage link, I start to worry about. As @2poons and @asap1 said, you could rebuild old-internal pages or get a bit creative with redirects: Pick the urls that get the most juice and redirect them, one by one, to your new content (different urls as well).

I don't care about stats, but I must admit Majestic Historic Index is a nice help. That plus Ahrefs, should give you a better overview.

Do 301s to the homepage pass link juice? I've thought that they did not for some time, but now I can't find a solid source confirming it.

Thanks for so much reply. There are really a few gold advices from you guys.

I would go deeper in that subject. Do you personally belive and you have evidences in stats that topic related PBNs are giving more SEO boost?
I don't want to give my opinion right now just not to point you direction. I would like you to write only about thing that you have tested. Not that I think it might have or might have not. Do any of you ever created close related PBN to the website.

Again I'm honored that you found time to give a few kilos of gold here!

I use the metrics to filter, but you need to analyse the backlink profile. That is a skill that has to be learnt.

Just use the number of referring domains and quality of backlinks to the PBN domain as the pick up criteria. Metrics are just pointers, legwork needs to be done anyhow.

I don't know if you guys understood me.

I will give an example : What If I got barber shop website. I wanna rank it. Should I look for a hair similiar websites or any website will be fine.
    Have you tested this ?
And what If I have english website, this barber shop and I have PBN from Spanish or French websites. The PBN is in spanish and french. Domains .fr and .es links from such PBN will have weaker effects?

Best it would be the PBN's to be in the same language and in the same niche. But a little bit of niche and language diversity won't hurt.

    Xenoxen,
I've tested and seen by experience that if you want to rank, relevance is always better than no relevance and local domains are always better than other countries domains (eg: ranking for Spain, it will always be better to have .es PBN's than .no (norway) domains!). Nevertheless, they will still pass some link juice even if they are not 100% in the same topic (eg: your PBN may be about business, but you can post an article that talks about: "new business opportunities in the dog training area" ... just a quick example).
To sum up: Similar topic PBN's with the target country as a tld will always be better than unrelated topic PBN with other country tld.
But a backlink from a PBN will always pass some link juice even if it's not 100% related and from a different country tld...

It doesn't matter whether the links are from Homepage or not. The most important thing is that you need to check the Wayback archives. There are lot of automated tools to check all kind of parameters but no tool could help you in checking Wayback and this is something most people ignore.
