If the domain is not niche related do not 301 it.
If you want to make the domain related to your niche then put up 3-5 articles, building some links to the domain with your niche related anchor text, let it sit for at least 1 month, then 301.
example if i have domain with RD 500 with great anchor brand naked etc , how many links with my anchor do i need ? 10 ? 50 ? just approx
