Anyone try this? I am talking about the actual (short url) map link to GMB Page (not website).

Well it wouldn't hurt, but not sure how many people would prioritize spending money over actual links to a money site.
I wouldn't do it anyway. Interesting to hear if anyone does it though

It drives traffic so it does help but as Panther28 said it's a cost that is hard to justify because your money site is way better.

in my opinion some microsites with spinned content can help if they are keyword oriented.
Maybe with some tier 2 link building campagin.
