PBN Linking Method - Case Study In Progress

also, would appreciate any updates on impact of using social sharing in your experience. thanks in advance

This is some great information. I read through every post on this thread and learned some great stuff, but you did bring up something I hadn't even thought about. You mentioned that when you get a new host you scan all the neighboring websites to make sure no one else is hosting a website on the same IP range.

Im guessing you scan the whole C-class range? meaning if for instance your IP address was 127.0.0.1 you would scan all the websites from 127.0.0.2 to 127.0.0.255?

do you do this manually or do you have a tool you use for this sort of thing?

Nothing much with social shares except that when you publish a new post then this is the best method to get it crawled immediately. I just tweet the URL and it gets crawled within few minutes.

I don't go for checking the entire C Class but just the IP the website is on. You will be surprised to see 1000's of websites on single IP with any major hosting company shared hosting package. Use the website yougetsignal.com for some nifty tools.

Here is the monetisation update for last month:

Out of the 30 PBNs that i have been targeting for longtails, 19 are on first spot, 5 on 2nd spot, 5 on 3rd spot and 1 on 9th spot. All in Google. One site ranking have gone from 1st to 2nd spot and another one which was on 5th spot has gone to 9th spot. Mostly it is because of the competitor building PBN links to their sites. I have full list of the links built by them. But looks like they are ranking because of the freshness of links and ultimately they will drop back to the old rankings. I am not going to build any fresh links for another month to see whether my theory is correct or not.

Traffic from all the sites have roughly touched 3400-4700 uniques per day and pageviews of 21k almost every day. No drop in traffic because of loss in rankings for one site mainly because there are some new longtails that it has started ranking for.

As far as monetization is concerned, both the money sites use amazon affiliate and out of the 30 PBNs, 18 sites use adsense and rest of them use amazon.

Money sites are now earning $30-40 per day depending on weekday/weekend. Weekends being the better earners.

30 PBNs are earning around $35-45 per day out of which adsense is around $12-18.

Earnings are same as previous month.

Total earnings for the last 30 day is $3250. Cost of running this whole network is around $850, this includes all the premium hosting and content for the sites. Also hired a VA for $350 to do social sharing, more about it later in the post.

I have been just adding content in the last 30 days and did no linking. I am planning to do no linking for another month to see how long the sites hold to their rankings without fresh links.

During last month I hired a full time VA for $350. Gave him couple of aged FB accounts and got him to join many FB pages and groups related to my niche and have been posting and sharing links of my sites (both homepage and subpages). I am finding a steady stream of traffic from FB though there is no relative increase in earnings. I believe it will take at least another month of effort by the VA before the traffic starts converting to earnings. Also I have been only using FB for this social sharing blitzing and will move on to Twitter, instagram and Pinterest for the coming month.

I believe a few posts back you talked about maybe using your PBN to target harder keywords. Is this still something you're planning on?

my bad when you mentioned premium hosting I thought this meant dedicated IP's

Yes, targeting harder keywords is something that I am planning to do but never really got the time to get around it. Will do that in the coming 2-3 months.

Premium hosting means those hosts where the chances of finding a PBN on the same IP is zero. That is what makes a host different and premium to me.

Questions:
1) Do you monetize Tier 2 Pbn?
2) Which domain scraper software are you using? Mind to share?
3) You are using dedicated proxies to host your Pbns?

Answers below:

1) Do you monetize Tier 2 Pbn? - No
2) Which domain scraper software are you using? Mind to share? - I do have subscription to most of them out there :D
3) You are using dedicated proxies to host your Pbns? - I use a mix of all which includes premium hosts, $1 hosts, some on proxies and some sharing space with real high end VPS and Dedicated servers running some busy sites. Don't put all your eggs in a single basket :p

When you link from your T2 to T1, do you use shorteners, bare links, branded anchors, or kw anchors?

hi sristry, previously you told me you find irrelevant niche domain and repurpose it then link to your money site, right? I am now wondering if the irrelevant niche domain has irrelevant backlinks, should i still register the domain?Would it get penalize?

Example: 1) my money site is banking
2) I found a pbn with travelling niche
3) Backlinks of the PBN are from food and beverage sites
4) PBN is clean from anchor text

The point to be noted here is how many PBNs are you looking to build. If it is a large network for a very hard competitive niche then you pick up all good domains irrespective of niche/backlinks. But if you are planning to build out just 5 or so domains for your PBN network then you can source niche domains. However if you get a good domain with good backlink profile then don't pass it up, just build it out and send links to your money site. I would do this rather than stick to just one strategy. This way you get diversified backlink profile as well as don't put all your eggs in one place.

If you have a significant investment in a PBN you should see if supa growths PBN hunter picks it up....Be interesting to see....

Any updates on this ??

The major update right now is that none of these domains have been deindexed. Not that i did any great changes or the way i link out from these domains, just kept it that way without changing much since the time they were started out.

Good going Sristy! :)

Tried with that and it returned and picked up just one domain of all and i know why it did so. Inadvertently i had left a sample page (WP default "Hello World") in that domain and that flagged it to be PBN, none of the other domains were picked up.

Here is an update after the recent Google sledgehammer on PBNs and money sites using them to rank & bank.

Out of the 30 sites and 2 money sites, both the money sites are safe and holding the rankings except that it keeps moving up and down few spots everyday and that is due to the current niche volatility, i assume.

Out of the 30 PBNs that were all ranking nice and enough to generate hordes of traffic since last 4-5 months, during the last week of February when google went behind PBNs, 2 of them got hit and that too i turned them around in the last 25 days or so. They are back at their rankings, you may ask why. Well, search over this forum and you will find the answer. From what i read everywhere and here on this forum is that Google was targeting anchor keyword targeting. So i diluted the anchors from those PBNs and just used brand/URL from them to the money site. Though this was applicable to release the penalty on money sites, i went ahead and changed the linking out from these PBNs to brand/URL and it worked. This also confirms that these were algo penalties and no manual reviews as when it was corrected the algo also corrected the rankings after recrawling. Now there is an important question that is lingering in my mind, why was this penalty not applied to other 28 sites where the linking out pattern is more or less similar. No answer from me as of now till i find a definite pattern, right now i don't see any penalty.

Surprisingly, even though two PBNs stopped sending traffic for almost 30 days, but the last 30 days have seen a huge rise in traffic. I attribute this mainly to the factor that there were at least 4 sites in my niche those which were holding spots in first page of google that were hit during last google update and are no where to be seen, some crappy sites have taken over those spots and traffic has increased to my sites. But this would be temporary as and when webmasters hit back.

Great post. I'm seeing benefit from adjusting anchor ratios as well.

Do you just change your anchors, or delete the link from old post and post a new link in new post?

I just unlink the anchor and leave it that way for a week or so, then make a new link with new anchor in the same post. I dunno why i do that, but i do it that way :D
