when searching for domains for PBN, I often come across sites that were in a foreign language. All their backlinks are also in a foreign language.
so for example, today there was a site that was in French. All its backlinks were in French. All its backlinks came from .fr sites

would you buy this domain for PBN purposes if your site is in English?

If the backlinks are decent (i.e. high trust and authority) then yes I would buy the domain.

The only problem I see is that it becomes more difficult to spot a spammy domain when it's all in French so spend a little extra time on your due diligence.

As for using the domain, I'd be half tempted to put some content up in French and link to my money site using your KW but in French - that's gotta be high on the KW variation score ;)

I wonder if google translate bots are crawling along the Search bots.

Probably be all like the foreign legion and the US marines

it will work great if it has strong backlinks. i rank some keywords with the help of blogroll links in completely foreign sites. relevance and topical pagerank are auxiliary metrics to the normal PageRank and that's why any strong link will work regardless of where you got it.
