If the domain has been used as a directory like article directory even though how good the metrics is I will not gonna use it. Reason is that it connects to various sites and doesn't focuses on one topic. And with that there might had been links on it that are spammy and had been flagged as abused because of that.

I wouldn't be bothered at all about the fact, that domain was used for various topics. That has nothing to do with whether or not the domains is clean. The problem is, that it served as a directory and Google hates those. There is a pretty good chance, that the domain is penalized and you should avoid it, despite the metrics.

Metrics are no longer important when checking a domain, please look far into domains' backlink profile, that's where the money is

I would skip it unless it's a 100% percent clean site ,
check the archive screenshots and keep an eye on them whether everything matches or not , check the anchors too , if they are clean you're good to go but if I were in your case I would move to the next one unless this one is rich on backlinks

DA with 20 is not up to that level what you are expecting,but you can increase that with a good number.
