Hello all. I'm new to this forum.

I'm having a issue with PayPal.

The total amount according to quick books is $4,156 - most of this is within three months, as indicated by the graph...

I recently got a email from PayPal requesting my SSN, however the issue is that I am 16, turning 17 on 10/28/2017

However, I do have a bank account. I've linked my SSN up to it, and I do have a permit meaning my information is in a state database. My question is, would it be ok to send them my SSN? Will I get the 1099K form? I want to do this to save my account and prevent it from getting limited.

Will they know that i'm underage with my SSN? Would it be worth it for me to just create a stealth account?

Thank you for all your help. I would really appreciate help with this.

Also, I have received two emails from paypal regarding my SSN about a week apart.

Thanks.

Yes they will be able to tell your age from SSN but they might not bother to do that. Can you create an EIN number? In which case you can upgrade your paypal account to business and ask them to let you put in the EIN number. This is the safest way I think. Otherwise you could run a stealth account but you will need to use the EIN method on stealth account as well as they will eventually ask for it.

Yes, they will have a general idea about how old you are from your SSN. Each set of numbers of your SSN tell the state you were born in, the year, etc....Maybe tell them that the account is under your parents direction? Let me know how it works out.

So i've decided to give PayPal my SSN.

I did this 2 days ago now, and they haven't responded with any follow-up information. I'm assuming they took it. I'd assume it's because I have a permit/license and my information is in a state database somewhere. I guess that's how it works.

As a side note: I'm wondering if it might be better for me to upgrade to a business account now. Thoughts?

If you upgrade to business account you would still have to give them EIN similar to SSN but for businesses

Submit your SSN, they won't bite you.

Keep running a legit business but always remember that one day they'll ask for a drivers license when you least expect it and that'll plainly show you aren't over 18. They'll be required to close out the account. I had this happen to me several years ago. There's a workaround that you can do.

Call them when they close the account, say you need to refund a couple clients and to re-open the account for a week. They'll do this if you are American and are good on the phone. Once that the account is re-opened close out the account, just delete the account. It's under account settings somewhere, find it.

The next day, reopen the account with the same name/ssn/address/phone number but use a different email address. They'll treat you like a totally new customer and the account problems will be a thing of the past.

I did this once back in 2013 when they asked for my driver's license and I told Paypal over the phone that I was underage. They were cool with it but said they still had to close it out.

Good luck with Paypal man and always pay your taxes you owe to the IRS.

I think what you sell and your business model has a big impact on whether you get document request from paypal and eBay. I sell non-vero items and everything is delivered within 10 days and I have had exactly 1 eBay request for driver's license and 1 paypal request for identity verification since 2009 over several dozen accounts.

I have been asked for driver's licence just once, and I'm 99.99999999% sure that was because I tried a new VPN and it was blacklisted. When it happened I sent in photoshopped ID matching my stealth info (There is no database of driver's license #'s like there is SS# to verify whether it's legit) and my account was cleared in about 10 days.
