    Ok, here's my story!
I sold a website to a friend of mine and he paid me via paypal ($200)
Next day my payment was put on hold and account needed further verification.. i completed all the steps (cc, address etc proof)

now my account is verified and they reversed my payment. I wasn't that worried because i know the buyer would send me the money again or send me a check.
So i contacted him and he has his paypal account closed.. so no way to receive the $200.. neither he received an email from paypal saying he has $200 or anything like that.

So paypal reversed my payment but the buyer never got his money back into his bank account or any other way.

    What should i do now?

yeah ring them up and make it clear it was a legit transaction from friend to friend. If both of you talk to them, verifying it was legit then you should get your cash back. If not, go to court!

I sent them an e-mail explaining everything and if i don't get it back that i would go to court because neither me or the buyer got the money back.
Will wait for a response but i'll call them tomorrow see what they have to say in relation to neither of us has the money now.

    zigzag911 how that happened?

Going to court will cost you more than $200.

I lost 1.3k there, I was so pissed.

I'm glad it happened though. It made me really work my ass off. I've made back more than that this morning. :]

They will allow you to transfer the money to your bank account after 6 month. They did the same thing to me.

the only reason for them not give one of you the money back is if your friend's account had something shady going on (w/his account) before he was going to pay you. you should call/email them anyway!

I lost $850 this way. Paypal always is on the buyer's side, so I don't know what could possibly do.
The best way to avoid this is to use the "request money" form whenever selling something.

I don't see why you wouldn't sue. After all, the loser party pays all the expenses, and in these situations it is clear that Paypal would lose.

No, the BEST way to avoid issues like this is to NOT use paypal. When are people going to wake up, and smell the coffee??

We should really have a Paypal Complaints/problems/stories/ thread for all these Posts :( it's the same thing over and over again.

It would take a class action suit, with hundreds if not thousands of others to be successful. There was one a few years ago, I dont think it was a positive ending though, as they are still dooing the same ole crap to people.

Problem is, half the sh#t that they do is agreed to by the user being screwed when they agree to the TOS.

They'll continue this crap until people STOP using them. when it hurts the pocket book, is when things start to change.

It doesn't help either when they're own by EGAY. Hurt one , you can Hurt the other.

There are alternatives, to both that are Legit.

You sure your friend didn't paid you with a stolen paypal account? It happened to me once, some ass has paid me from a hacked paypal acct, then the real holder claimed the refund and was fair to do so.I was dumb to accept paypal not him

im in the same boat. and sucks BIG TIME. There is nothing you can do to speed up the process. I have $30 in my bank account and 5 figures in my paypal that I cannot use. I had no clue that this shit happens.

Your problem should be fine because you can get the buyer to call paypal and say everything was legit.

I think they do this to make sure people arn't using paypal as a means to sell drugs and other sketchy stuff. and to make sure no hacking is involved.

PayPal is the biggest scam online and the thing that sucks is that there are no other good alternatives.

This is what scares me about doing business with PayPal
    Code:
In the United States, PayPal is licensed as a money transmitter on a state-by-state basis. PayPal is not classified as a bank in the United States, though the company is subject to some of the rules and regulations governing the financial industry including Regulation E consumer protections and the Patriot Act.

In the US, although PayPal has an extensive User Agreement, PayPal is not directly regulated by the U.S. federal government, because it serves as a payment intermediary. The law is unclear as to whether PayPal is a bank, narrow bank, money services business or money transmitter. PayPal could also be subject to state regulation, but state laws vary, as do their definitions of banks, narrow banks, money services businesses and money transmitters.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PayPal

So basically, PayPal can legally screw you, because no one knows exactly what they are.
