PayPal raises fees

how do you even get started with bitcoin and where do you find them at

This is exactly why people are not accepting bitcoin, it is just not a ubiquitous currency. With Paypal you can accept payments in pretty much any currency and it is convenient with most people having a Paypal account.

With bitcoin you are open to the massive unpredictable fluctuations in the value of it. A month or so ago 1 btc was worth $260 today $225 (according to briefly checking btc-e.com), that is far worse than any increase in Paypal's fees and it could tank any day now.

When btc is more stable and ubiquitous more people will be using it but most people are waiting for it to become more stable and it won't become more stable till it becomes more popular.

sounds like you're talking about something you don't understand. bitcoin payment processors handle 100% of the fluctuations, and merchants get paid in usd, euro, whatever (if they choose)

-------------------------------------------

Bitcoin is really the best payment method for merchants, but consumers do not have much incentive to pay with it. This is the main problem. For a new bitcoin user who wants to pay using bitcoin, there is so many steps and parties involved from getting bitcoins, to paying with them.

You're gonna come at me like that for pointing out why bitcoin is not taking off?

Ok so these payment processors that take a payment in btc and pay you out instantly in whatever currency you choose are doing it for free or at least cheaper than Paypal?

So what if I think "sod being ripped off by instantly converting btc to my currency, I will hold onto the btc and wait till I can sell a chunk to a trader" and then next week it loses 10%+.

Either situation sucks and is just a couple of extra reasons btc is not taking off.

I may not know as much about btc as a lot of others but I know enough to know that it is a risky thing to trade with unless you know exactly what you are doing, and even then it can be risky as fuck. I'll take a predictable %age charge from a payment processor that 98% of users can pay with rather than a fringe currency that is liable to fluctuate wildly without warning and leave you massively out of pocket as a result.

I have nothing against btc at all and hope it takes off, just for the record.

Yes they are, 0% fees. Free and next day deposits (faster than PayPal's 2-3 days)

Sad reality is that Paypal can do whatever the fuck it wants to do. Sellers will have to put up with higher fees and most sellers will just have to accept it that way. Paypal has the network effect going on for them and is the number one payment processor out there.

Unless you're going to use a alternative payment service you're stuck with paypal. Bitcoin doesn't seem like a good option because of the severe fluctations and all these bitcoins getting stolen like jimbobo mentioned.

Not sure what you're referring to. Also, I am talking only about merchant processing

I'm talking about getting cash money from the btc, money that can be used anywhere as opposed to only some places. There may be no cost to transfer from one btc wallet to another but there definitely are costs involved in getting your money to use outside of the few vendors willing to accept btc.

Total 30+ this month.....................
If you aren't, start using a shopping cart that integrates with a fraud filter like MaxMind. It should hopefully cut down on those. It has been known to cause some false positives, but looks like it could save you a lot of time and money.

You don't have control upon the chargebacks but this is mostly issue of the business and customers you have..

I'm using Bitcoin and have no issue with it .. Ok is going up but what you prefer? Real currency that is on risk of chargebacks? And get nothing or digital currency that give you 100% no chargeback security and it is ~ stable +-40$. And don't forget ... today bitcoins are cheap tomorrow who knows..

Is your choice :)

bitcoin is fucking stupid, stop bringing it up.

"oh lets use real money, to turn it into fake money then turn it back into real money so I can actually fucking use it"

Brilliant.

How and why you say that bitcoin are stupid? Is because you don't understand the idea behind? Have you even try bitcoin? Or you just comment w/o the knowledge ? The whole world is using bitcoin as second currency . As long bitcoin is on the world market is LEGAL currency and not fake money....

Just a matter of time before Paypal will be replaced by Payza, Bitcoin etc

Yeh sure .. if Payza can keep it up until then ..
I understand that people are always scared from new things (most of them). But remember when PayPal show up? It was hard days to get customers trust PayPal :D Same happens with Bitcoin.

What world is this?

Yes I have tried bitcoin, I traded crypto for a while but found it a little to random for my liking.

I like the idea behind bitcoin, but in reality it just does not work.

The mechanism for changing money into bitcoins and then back into money is not easy and people simply will not do it.

PayPal is popular because its simple for the buyers, it rips off the sellers but in the sellers are not the ones in control here. They have to use what the people are comfortable using.

No one uses bitcoins, it will not catch on, its not a currency and in 5 years it will be "hey, do you remember bitcoins?" rather than a "I only accept bitcoins"

Wake up and see the real world for what it is.

Another problem for bitcoins is they are not secure, hear me out.

If someone steals your laptop/phone or your computer hard drive dies... you just lost your money. No one will help you, its gone, you're poor.

If someone steals your bank card, you can have it frozen in less than 15 mins. You are protected, if you wake up one day and someone has emptied your bank account you will get it back.

Are you seriously suggesting everyone switches to bitcoins, so when they have a house fire and it kills their PC they not only have a burned down house, but they also have no money?

I understand you my friend but bitcoins are like real cash.. yes there is always a risk as there is risk holding 1k $ in our poket. The risk is the same actually . But no one tell you to keep your money in bitcoins.. just get paid with bitcoins and exchange it to real money..

Now I'm not saying everyone should move to bitcoin.. don't take me wrong..

Bitcoin is 3-4 years old? From the first moth there was people like you saying that in 5 years noone will talk about bitcoins. Time is passing and bitcoins are even more stable .

BTW most bitcoin wallets have 3 step verification before you gain access to your wallet so is not that easy to be hacked .

Again.. remember the days when noone was using paypal?

lmfao. Bitcoin is the most secure thing out there. Tell me ECDSA or sha256 is broken, and I will agree with you otherwise.

It's not bitcoin thats insecure, it's the user.

Now there is things like multisig. But user created backups are the most important thing.

It amazes me how clueless some people are about Bitcoin. So quick to state facts about things they know nothing of. Not Ste Hughes, you spewing so much nonsense. I hope you don't edit your post because if you ever do your research, and read it again, you're gonna laugh.

I am not saying PayPal or Bitcoin is better, but just get your facts right at least.
