Paypal is requesting me to send a fax in of My ID, SSN Card, and Utility Bill

I am 16, so if they find this out I will be ban like that. I only have utility bills with my parents name on them, nothing of my own. I have a SSN Card. (The problem is doesn't your SSN corespond with your DOB, so once they see my SSN they will be able to tell my birth year? I am not 100%)

What should I do here.

You're SSN will not throw up any red flags. I had a paypal when I was 14 and I used my SSN. Nothing happened.

I'm not sure about the ID and bill. You might have to sweet talk paypal or make some fake docs. I can't I've you any guidance as far as the ID and Bill goes.

If they find out that you're under 16 they will delete your paypal account, this is what happened to me but I was lucky since I turned 18 that month so they told me to create new paypal account.

Yeah you have to be 18... Should I just work with the person here who is able to come up with some docs?

Well if you're thorough and have some skill, you can photoshop your way out of the utility bill problem.

If not, I think there's a service around here somewhere that's designed to help with this exact problem.

DO NOT GIVE PAYPAL YOUR SSN

Even if what you're doing is legit, you don't have to give it to them.

It sounds like what you need to do is make a new paypal account under a business name and obtain a tax ID. With a business, you can obtain all of the information you need in case this happens again.

As soon as paypal sees you are not 18, they will perm limit your account and your money will be locked up for 6 months. Prepare for that, because you're not going to be able to prove otherwise.

The stuff they're asking for is to confirm your identity, not your age. Make sense?

Thanks for the reply George, really appreciated.. Why should I not give them my SSN? And how do I obtain a business name and tax ID? would being under 18 be a problem with the state?

The moment they see you are under 18. BAM! Account frozen.
If you dont fake docs prepare to have your money put on hold.

If you manage to get some docs together and get by beware that whenever there's a major change in your payment activity they tend to request this information all over again.

Being under 18 might be an issue obtaining a tax ID, now that I think about it. However, I'm sure there are ways around this. Foreigners can easily start businesses and obtain tax ID's. The IRS wants you to pay taxes. They'll give anyone a tax ID. http://www.sba.gov/community/discussion-boards/minor-under-18-would-start-business

Your ssn should be closely guarded. In the USA, we abuse what it is meant for. In Canada for example, it is illegal to ask for their version of the ssn for anything other than what it's meant for.

I wouldn't give it to them because your account is already limited, and I can bet that when you turn 18 you're going to wish you had not given it out.

You shouldn't use PayPal if you're under than 18 man, it's really as easy as that. PayPal is great if you use it right

If I wanted to open up my own business in the future, this won't create a problem right? I will be able to edit my business name with the government, and close this name and id, open another?

Faking a utility doc is easy in photoshop if you have a parents one.... Just change name and address and all good. Worked for me, all I need now is a fake ID

You can register a company when you are 18 and then apply for a tax number.
For now just use stealth PayPal accounts and if they ask you for that information drop the account and move on.

Can you open an account under your parents name (With their consent of course)?

I know this topic is a bit old, but I think Paypal just opened "student accounts (open to 13+)." I'm 15 and use a standard Paypal, so I don't think I can or will ever switch to a student PP.

Has anyone used student PP before?

If you have a functioning and normal PayPal account then opening a student account would be a big mistake. First you would have two
accounts with duplicate information and then secondly your account has limits where your parents have to authorize certain transactions and
from what I have heard your parents would have to have a real normal PayPal account for it to work.
