"The creator of MineCraft has run into a bit of a snag with PayPal, which has frozen his account with over $763,000 in it and refuses to let him touch it.

Because it's a struggle for me to scrape together 750 bucks, much less 750 thousand, I can't really imagine how much it would suck to have it but not be able to get at it. So I'll let MineCraft creator Markus Persson describe the situation in his own words.

"Paypal. On the 25th, they limited my account for unspecified reasons (a suspicious withdrawal or deposit! wow, thank you for that amazingly detailed information), and asked me for a bunch of vague documents. I did my best to give them what they asked for," he wrote on his blog. "My account is still limited. I've called them three times, they keep telling me it's being reviewed. Most recently they told me it'd take up to two more weeks for it to get resolved, and that if they decide something bad's being going on, they're going to keep the money. There's over 600000 euro in there. Money I was planning on investing in the new company."

In response to people suggesting that it's somehow his own fault for letting all that money build up in a PayPal account, Persson noted that he actually clears out his account every week. "They limited my account just as sales started spiking, so this money has accumulated since they limited the account," he said.

One obvious question emerges from Persson's ongoing troubles with PayPal: How the hell does one guy rack up more than three quarters of a million dollars off a single indie game? My first thought was that it had to be a typo, but apparently MineCraft is just a really good game. As one commenter on Slashdot noted, "I bought the game a couple of months ago and every other game in my collection had been neglected... Single player is an amazing time waster, it's so easy to get completely sucked into a world made up of giant pixels. It's one of the best indie games I've ever tried and it's made by just one guy."

Persson said he's sure he'll get things sorted out, but described the situation as "kind of frustrating" in the meantime. Hopefully he'll have better luck than Something Awful did during its 2005 run-in with PayPal: After raising over $30,000 in nine hours to aid Red Cross efforts following Hurricane Katrina, SA's PayPal account was frozen for suspicious activity, ultimately resulting in all donated funds, minus service fees, being returned to donators."

i am feeling quite good now as paypal believes in equality ;)

No wonder why paypal is so rich. He's an idiot for having that much sitting in his paypal anyways..

Yep no matter what as soon as the money in your account spikes anything you do is suspicious and you will be limited regardless of how much you have.

Yeah as soon as i get money in my paypal account, i withdraw it right away with my paypal atm card, screw that.

haha, my accounts limited right now as well. They limited it after I added a CC, I have been waiting for days for them to charge my CC $2 to get some verification code. I have outstanding subscriptions and late ebay payments cause of this. Oh well, lucky theres not .75M in there XD

Paypal is for petty cash not for great volumes..

They charged my cc right away, and i logged into my credit card statement and confirmed it within 2mins. You might wanna try again.

yeah, not sure what the slow link in the chain was, I'v been checking my online banking transactions everyday, it just appeared today. Yay =p Took 3-4 days roughly.

Ok everybody - lets all take $1.000 off PayPal and send it to MineCraft moneybookers account :p

75 people and we are set :D

LOL They are worst but got very few options and that's why people still using them. Once people start getting good options they will understand value of customers.

Most important problem is their pathetic customer service... They will freeze your account when ever they wish, they will never explain or give detailed information and will not let you solve problem easily. Guess what this way they get chance to eat good amount of money every year.

Their TOS lol no security for digital purchase... I bought something, seller didn't delivered... I sent all details after disputing but never received money. Next time I sold something, person got what he ordered and also used my support for some time then disputed. My account got freezed, i sent details every thing enough to prove my claims but again I didn't receive money.

LOL dunno who gets money incase of dispute with digital items buyer or seller... I lost in both cases even when i had proof. After that i never disputed even after getting scammed because I knew paypal not gonna give me anything except wasting my time.

Gaypal :| Really sucks. I had my Paypal Account limited when cash was flowing in.
This is the reason why they are so rich, keeping other people's money in their own pocket. :fing02:

Bastards-Kidnappers - I will send them some documents and I hope they will give me back in few weeks
