guy needed a service. sent him an invoice through paypal. I believe I indicated it's for service in my invoice, but not 100% sure.

50 days later, guy does a chargeback with his cc company, making my balance negative.

paypal wants to know my side of the story. I basically wrote this was for a service and I dont have tracking number.

what will happen next?
I am just curious, would it have worked if I sent a package to his address today, and gave paypal the tracking info?

if it was a payment for seo service, then you're safe.

paypal usually wont back the buyer in case of virtual services.

Provide some proofs to paypal if you have completed the service. They will investigate and decide in favour of you. Because the payment was made for a service not for purchasing any goods.

They'll want a tracking number, be it for a service or physical product, which is stupid since services aren't usually 'shipped off'.

That policy only applies to a Paypal dispute, not a CC chargeback. The CC company will decision the case and you will likely lose. They'll also charge Paypal a chargeback fee which they'll promptly pass along to your account. With services for sale disputes are nearly impossible to lose - with CC chargebacks it's a much different story, Paypal has no say in the matter.

Occasional chargebacks are the cost of doing business with processors. You'll get varying advice here but ultimately it's treating customers right and protecting yourself from fraudulent buyers that will mitigate the risk.

You'll most likely lose.

It's easier if you're just dealing with paypal, but now you have to deal with the bank of the person who purchased from you.

actually, i've been quite pleased with Paypal, esp with a recent case. I purchased an advertising campaign from this guy on his website and he failed to deliver. He promised to refund but kept dragging. So I opened a dispute and presented Paypal with screenshots of all our email exchanges and his promise to refund but has not done so. They investigated and within 2 days, I had the money back in my account :)

So I have to say that Paypal really works for their customers and if you have the proper records and evidences, I think the odds are in your favor :)

You'll need to prove your case to PayPal AND the CC company. If you have proof that it was a service purchased by him via his PayPal account for his website / company / etc you can easily win a chargeback dispute with his credit card company. If he filed a chargeback for "unauthorized use" or something along those lines and it's for his company / website / etc he filed a fraudulent case and the CC company will reverse it.

I'd email / contact him and tell him you're going to dispute the charge with his credit card company and see what he does. You had better have plenty of proof / screenshots / etc his purchase is legit though or the card company won't care.

And no on the send a package today thing. They'd just see the date it shipped being post-chargeback.

Hey its a part of the Game
some people use credit card so they can do that Charge back, I Have Lost a lot of money with charge back stuff, because either it was fraud or the person failed a case against the payment, even thou i am sure that, the person is the one ordered the services.
The only way to avoid such cases is to make sure no one pay Through credit card
Good luck & Keep it Moving
