I recently sold a home theater system to someone, and they disputed their money back, I had already withdrew my money back to my bank account, and spent it on rent for my apartment. I basically got scammed, and now I'm stuck with a debt of $2400. They sent debt collectors after me, I just told them I got scammed on paypal, and I don't want to deal with their BS. I don't plan on paying them....I got the money I deserved. I'm not giving it back. I already mailed to them telling them to NEVER call or send me mail again. Is that it? I happen to be a 16 year old, so I don't even have a credit file right? I don't even have a credit card either. So I'm safe right? I read some articles online saying that you cannot send debt collectors after a minor, and I happen to be one. Any thoughts? Suggestions?

I would have someone call the collection agency pretending to be your parents pissed off that their 16 year old even had a Paypal account in the first place.

Have your parents answer the phone and say you are a minor and this is unacceptable. They should stop eventually.

A very similar thing happened to me and this worked.

I doubt thats it, they are going to keep chasing you. Your best bet would be to educate yourself on your rights with regards to debt collectors and try dealing with them accordingly.

If you did deliver the television set, which is obviously a tangible product, where are your proofs? Why didn't you respond through the resolution center with proof of delivery. If you really were scammed, why dont you report it to law enforcement agencies?

Paypal seem to like to think they are something that they are not. What they are is a payment processor. What they are not is a company who decides who is right and who is wrong after a transaction has took place.

If you have a tracking number stating that the item was ship that will help out a lot. Plus keeping receipts is always good because you can copy and send it to eBay. I always keep all of my receipts in a separate folder for eBay / Internet business.

Next time, make a stealth account - specially since your a minor. Use a fake address and a VCC, then transfer the money from your stealth account to your real account after the transactions and call it payment for hosting etc. That way Paypal will only go for your stealth account and you can say you used that money to buy hosting etc.

Technically, you could be in more trouble for even having a paypal account. You agreed when you signed up that you were at least 18 years of age, they could come after you for that. But if not, that $2400 debt is tied to a real name and address I'm assuming? Then that will linger around forever. You need to call Paypal and dispute whatever decision was made, also file a claim with FDIC for fraud against the person who scammed you and make paypal aware of this. Tell them you filed a fraud claim against them as well for taking part in this.

I was recently scammed on Amazon, on my seller account. Person claimed the product never arrived, tracking showed delivered, she filed a claim and Amazon immiedatly issued her a refund. I had my account as a result immediatly suspended.

I then took 15 minutes to file a complaint with the FDIC and local FBI Branch against fraud for this women. I gave them every piece of personal information I had, name, address, email, username, and I also filed a complaint against Amazon. Then I wrote the most obnoxious, sarcastic, rude, degrading email to Amazon, and let them know about my Fraud complaint. Next day, account is re-enstated. A month later the lady claims she got the phone and ends up paying me for it. Very strange circumstance, the point is though, even if you've been scammed now, it isn't to late to un do that.

If you have tracking number and receipts then this shouldn't be a problem. As I typed this , something dawned on me. How long has this happened? Between charge back to the account, to officially taking it from your bank account , to the extent where the bank is seeing it as bad debt and handing it over to collections. This must have been over some period of time. How long ago did this occur?

I've owed them £290 for the last 4 years after some idiot claimed money back just because they didn't read the ebay listing properly and I clearly stated no refunds/returns. I've never had a single letter or phone call from them but the only downfall is I now have to rely on other people letting me use their paypal accounts.

One of the common problems I've heard on PayPal users is the sudden and inexplicable freezing of their accounts. They can't add or withdraw any fund from their account, and they're required to go through a long, complicated process to verify their identity. Some users claim that PayPal has simply seized their funds and never returned them. You should have reported it as soon as possible and don't forget to keep the tracking number and receipt with you.

I have to say, you SHOULD have proof you sent the item. And if not, you should call the police. Paypal is not the judge and juror.

You can rest this case if you can provide proof of delivery. Did you have a tracking number? Is the PayPal dispute settled already?
We need some more info before we can give good advice. Update us

Does PayPal have your ss#? If not you're probably safe. Correct me if I'm wrong but your credit can still get messed up at 16. Credit is basically a file. PayPal will def be on there if they got you. Proof of delivery would help a ton also.

At his age he is not even suppose to have a PayPal account which already breaks the terms of service and at his age he is not liable
for this. Just like you cannot legally have a minor sign a contract since they are not liable at the end of the day.
