Paypal backtracks on $2,500 fine for misinformation

As they should. They're not the police or the government. They're a payment processor, the most despised payment processor, with declining stock prices & monthly users.

I don't know if they thought they'd "try something and see what happens" but I don't know how any person with a fully functional brain thought it was realistically a good idea to try to enforce that.

I'm one of the newly ex-Paypal users after they sent a closure notification pertaining to selling digital items, and probably some fraudulent transaction along with that. Plenty of alternatives around. Let them sink for good

Online payment network PayPal has reneged on a controversial policy that could've seen users fined $2,500 for spreading “misinformation,”

I would love to know how many accounts they lost in the 36-48 hours since they started this after announcing it.

I loath Paypal and this could not have happened to a bigger bunch of thieves.

I am afraid of paypal , my 100 bucks are stuck as account got limited , hence previous got stuck over 2000 dollars but got it recovered !

Not many. It's unlikely for a business to stop using PayPal overnight but I hope this makes people wonder and look for alternatives.

There was no actual need for PayPal to pretend to be some sort of moral police in the first place. Nobody asked for it. Well, at least not their customers. When a financial institution starts acting on feelings instead of sane business practices then something is not right. They've even made it worse by backing down because that only reinforces the notion of bad company management.

One thing about these clowns is how they change and update their terms and they are often BS, worded in their own favour.
