Paypal 1099!!!

This question may be dumb, but will PayPal release any information upon request by any agency, in Europe?

I lost access to my paypal account once, and in order to get back access I had to give them my SSN. This was a few years ago, and I was extremely hesitant. I asked many many time that they would only use it in house, and it would never be used for IRS reporting. They told me it wouldn't, and now this. Fuck them, that is flat out robbery.

Isn't it if you make $600 or more a month, you will have to report your earnings to the IRS? But yeah, I'm pretty sure your best option would be to report any earnings to the IRS once you hit the $600 mark a month, or more of course.

Well with regards to real SS# etc. being given, I think (I could be wrong) it becomes necessary when you hit a certain threshold of funds.

Anyone who has had some serious cash going in an out of their Paypal account knows that Paypal will freeze your account unless you hand over these documents.

I mean I guess sure you could hand over fake ones, but basically that's how they got me.

My Paypal account was basically rendered useless until I provided tax id, etc. I don't remember exactly what it was because it was probably 6-7 years ago, but that is why they have my info.

Yea, I forget what the threshold is but earlier this year I got a request from them for my tax info... they said what the triggers where... maybe 10K or over 200 transactions... something like that.

Well, They are probably going to send me one.

But I pay my taxes.... so no problem.

You're surprised you have to pay taxes??? Where have you been OP?

Its not about paying taxes, its just more paperwork that has to be done come tax time.

Something that was simple before now has become a clusterf#*@ of additional paperwork that has to be done.

On their site they clearly state it: more than 20,000 gross earnings AND more than 200 transactions this FY. :)

I can't wait until they find all the people on disability and / or welfare earning big money online while claiming unable to find or work a job on doctor forms. LMAO

I wonder how many backdoor audits this will produce? They see a guy's PayPal 1099 is for $80,000 this year and decide they better audit the last 5 years and find he didn't report any PP income. Watch and see how this plays out.

At junkfood- you said " I read it Uncle Scam first". I understood that to mean a mis-read of uncle sam. I am from the USA, and love this country. served 6 years the army. Of late, I don't get much of the thinking of our government though. '"Uncle scam" made me laugh (maybe not in the haha way). For some time now the government seems as black hat as - well many. where did the term "black hat" come from? Just tried to agree with a POV that I understood. If I misunderstood your meaning I am sorry.

yeah i got the notification about a month ago...i have a feeling this will lead to a market of selling accounts like facebook pvas lol

As far As pay pal. it is a problem (in my mind) if they go this way. I pay my taxes as well, to the ones that bring that up. The $20,000 thing - if this is happening- is not the point. This will make it harder over all.

As I said I pay my taxes. Taxes are an over all thing, so it does not matter what you make from pay pal. It matters what you make over all.

Just to restate me original question- How does pay pal determine what to put on the 1099. If you buy something for $10 and sell it for $20 -you made $10. But pay pal sees a $20 sale. You did not make $20.

These are the same clowns that, according to a post on here told some one to destroy a $2500 violin with no resolve. Now these clowns are going to share info in the form of 1099 with the irs? This is something that is of concern for people in the US.

Just to be clear- I am not trying to "cheat" the government. On that same token I don't want to be "cheated" by them. It is a two way road. The trust issues with the irs are based on experience.

For what it's worth- remember, many years ago (the 1920's) the government put Al Capone in jail due due tax issues. He was bad, sure , but nothing else stuck. The Irs has many many more "laws" in there favor since then. ------ Just sayin.
