I frequently buy stuff from an Italian webshop. They accept credit cards, PayPal and PostePay (apparently an Italian payment processor). So i guess credit card payments and PayPal are just as popular as anywhere else.
Most used are VISA and Paypal.
Many italian people are not confident in shop online. Here we have too many big stores (mediaworld, euronics, trony...) in all the big cities. So people prefear buy there instead ecommerce.
But the very big problem of italian ecommerces is shipping: shipping in italy is always uncertain. Too many times i bought somethings from USA or Germany. Shipping time from usa to italy is often 2-3 days. From italy to my home is often 4-5 days.
So i prefear buy that in a megastore.
For the main question: Visa, Paypal, and bank deposit.
Note: Postepay is a simple prepaid cart with VISA Electron circuit. Postepay is its name but its the same of many other prepaid card.
Hi all, i'm from Italy and i manage an ecommerce site for an Italian food brand. We accept payment through Paypal, credit cards (even pre-paid cards like Postepay, one of the most used in Italy) and bank transfer. Sometimes people ask if they can pay on delivery, but i think people is getting used to pay in advance.
At the moment credit cards is the most used payment method to buy online.
If you want to sell in Italy it's important to have a site very well translated in Italian. Most people here are not comfortable yet with foreign languages, including English.
