Hi there! 2 years in and now people are requesting backlinks from my site. I charge aprox. $70 per backlink.

Two clients now have wanted a backlink posted before payment - is this usual or red flag? Does posting the backlink and them not paying still benefit them, even if I remove the link after a few days of not being paid?

To me it seems like the client should pay first before the work is done - am I right in the assumption?

Thanks!

nope! They're the ones taking the risk, so you should accept the payment. Just make sure that the links they give you are at least somewhat relevant to your niche, or that at least they don't point to grey / shady stuff (adult, gambling, warez, pirating, guns, etc... basically stuff that google doesn't like).

Of course, if your site is in the adult niche itself then pointing to other adult sites is no problem :)

normally, yes. But with link building it can go the other way around because you are in control of their links and if they don't pay you they're the ones losing since they're the ones contacting you for links anyway because they most likely see the value in a backlink from you

Not a red flag. As long as they pay. If they don't delete their post or the link.
I accept guest post and let them pay after few days.
The reason why they are doing this is because google may deindex their post due to thin content or spam content. Or not index the post at all.
So to be safe I let them know I can write the article for say at 20$ additional cost if they don't provide well written article on a low competition keyword.

This is not a red flag for sure.

You follow the correct advice given by @tazarbm . He has highlighted some good points.

As far as payment is concerned, I do not feel there should be any problem you adding their link first and accepting payment later. Afterall you are in control of your website so you can always remove their link if they do not pay. And yes, keeping their link for 3-4 days (time period for their payment) shouldn't be a problem. It is not going to benefit them nor will harm you anyway.

Its okay, they want to make sure you are legit and its their right. They are the one who is taking all the risk here

May be there is an escrow account in BlackHatWorld? Or you can find a reliable escrow account provider. Money exchanges hands securely.

I think that's fair - the one buying backlinks is taking the most risks in here. Some bad siteowners scam buyers of backlinks/guest post on their websites by removing the link after it was paid.

Receiving payment before or after, whatever the case may be, do not accept PayPal. Nowadays, PayPal flags almost all non-physical virtual digital products & services as something scammy and then suspends such PayPal accounts. Sorry to say, but PayPal's top management seems to be internet illiterates. So, please do not end up losing your hard earned money.

Thanks guys, I added the clients links and now waiting for payment. Thanks for the reassurance! My first backlinks have now been sold and at $70 a piece! :)

Most clients will ask you to post the article with the link before the payment as articles can be taken down anytime but payment can't be reversed.

Another question - one of these clients is making some odd requests and one of them is to remove the noreferrer code from the link. All I can deduct from this is that it opens up tabnabbing nav sec rissks. They also were trying to sneakily get me to include banner ads for free by pretending our previously agreed terms were different - hence my suspicion of this client.

Thanks guys, appreciate it!

Hi my friend,

In fact, when you sell backlink you have the power because in case the buyer don't pay you you can just remove the link. In fews years selling backlinks I never got any issue regarding payement ! And 99,99% of the time customer were honest and paid fast !

thanks all for the advice - all the clients paid happily after posting the link!

Nope it won't be any issue regarding the payment till now, As in selling backlinks for few years. If you are more conscious regarding the payment, Just move with 50% upfornt payment in case of security purpose.
