I’ve been reading about Pay Per Install and wanted to understand how relevant it still is today. With changes in OS security and user awareness, I’m curious about its current state.

Is PPI still being used in legitimate ways?

What challenges are most common now compared to earlier years?

Any general insights on where the model is heading?

This is just for discussion and learning not asking for tools, offers, or methods.

PPI is pretty much dead for legit software. Users are way more careful now and Windows Defender catches most bundled installers instantly. The only places it kinda works are niche software categories where people expect bundleware, but payouts dropped hard.
Main challenges now are detection rates, users actually reading install screens, and platforms banning PPI traffic. Most networks that survived pivoted to mobile apps or CPA offers instead.
Honestly if you’re looking at user acquisition in 2025, PPI isn’t worth it compared to other models. Better off with standard affiliate or PPL depending on your niche.

It is :) You just need the right methods. Here are some angles:
1. Find a company that pays for installs, or monetize your own software.
2. Use a CPA network like MaxBounty to filter good offers that fit your traffic.
