Pay or do it myself?

Hi guys,

I was just wondering about paying someone to build the foundation of my site. I was going to take it to a high review person on fivver with great reviews. She said she could do a bunch of stuff for $100 dollars to build a professional website. She said about 20+ gigs worth of stuff is what she would add. I made a site last night using WP, my first actually. It was crappy but a ton of fun. I don't think its that hard to get the WP basics down. My question is is I can add pictures, install a premium theme, and add all the content myself, am I missing out on some benefit these guys could bring to my site with their work? For my long term project I need a quality foundation and I am not sure what I need to get that....should I turn to people who do coding to work with my site? Also I am building a site similar to "askmen" .com how hard is it to get that sort of functionality?

I would say that you should learn things to do yourself.. well most of them to some degree.

Personally, I would never give full control over my main money sources, to some random people just because they have positive reviews online.
On the other hand, since I'm mostly in webdesign business, during recent years I saw many people trying to develop their own sites from the ground, without any previous knowledge. They are doomed to fail.

What I'm trying to say is that you should have some knowledge in coding, design, marketing etc if you would like to have one day site as the one you mentioned. Take smaller steps at the first, and then lead yourself to the top. If you are just staring, be prepared for the years of hard work.
 
I am very prepared. I am not trying to waste my money on something I can learn to do from a quick google search. I have almost no coding abilities yet though.

Watch youtube and you can learn everything. Trust me. This skill will help you in life.
 
I would recommed doing it yourself to start with so that you understand the basics, can work out what you need help with, and have some context to help you judge whether you are getting value for money when outsouring. Best of luck.
 
Yes, this actually is the video I was going to take notes on and study "how to make a wordpress website-2015" on YouTube for any fellow noobs reading this.
 
You can make a fully functioning website with WordPress.
The Fiverr $100 gigs won't be anything that you can't do yourself.
If you need any special features then you can hire somebody to add them.
If you have the money, then you can hire a professional developer to build you something special.
 
If you want to save your time to promote your services to audiences, you should hire professional developer to do it for you.
If you want to learn how to do that, you do it by yourself.
 
I have had too much frustration trying to get people to take a design from psd to html on fiverr.
I second using wordpress and a theme.
 
Do it yourself. There's a lot of information on the internet and it's not that difficult if you put your hours in diligently. This will help you a lot later on if you want to make more websites as you won't need to rely on someone else to make it for you. You decide you want to make it, you make it. It's that simple.
 
You could do it yourself.
But this what I did when starting out...

I was interested in amazon affiliate thing, so I spend months trying to figure out to create that 'perfect website' and luckily I PMed someone who is also doing Amz aff. my website, and He pointed some stuffs out that i needed to change. I asked if He could do them and He said yes! He did add a premium theme and some premium plugins, and arrange my site properly all for $50! That was some few years ago.

I build 3 more site using the same theme+plugins, they became successful and I flipped them.
But you can skip all those and learn how to do it yourself for free using the resources available here at BHW and youtube.
 
You might want to pay for something professional, but at least understand the basics first. It's not very difficult to learn conventional "web design" languages, but if you need additional functionality, using things like Django/Rails will require professional experience for proper implementations.
 
Wordpress is super easy to get started with and learn to do even the more advanced things. I've learned a great a deal about PHP coding, server administration, website design, and more simply from getting started building an easy worpress site in 2007.

The assortment of learning tools is vast and near endless. There is no way I would pay someone $100 on fiverr to deprive myself of such a tremendous learning opportunity. Just build it yourself, and as your budget allows you can change or improve parts of it or expand your skill set. It's a great first level online website building experience. DYI!
 
First, you have to ask yourself: What are you good at and what do you enjoy doing?

Personally, I only flaunt my own strengths. The things I'm weak at, I outsource them. Will save more time and brain power.
 
You can do it by yourself, WordPress is the most simplest CMS to this day. And if you ever need help feel free to hit me up. :)
 
Try to do it yourself and if you can not succeed then hire someone to help you with it.
 
The obvious cons of paying someone would be liability issues in the long wrong (I mean, look at FB and what happened there. I know he didn't pay someone to code it, but he did use someone elses money to initially fund it.) and 2.) not knowing the very core of your code. I personally like to know every detail of what I have.
