Yep, don't waste your time!
Links are from pages... not "sites". So unless that "page" "grows", or somehow starts getting inbound juice, its of little use.
Further, pages don't start out as PR0.

Profile pages that are n/a have little worth - they are a link, but you will struggle to get to position 1 of Google for ipads on them unless you create an awful lot of them and outrank the high PR backlinks. Over time, if their PR improves (or you give it a nudge in the right direction) then they gain usefulness to you of course.
Profile pages from authority sites can help some websites if their niche is pretty uncompetitive.
So if your niche is competitive, then they are not great but marginally better than nothing and add to the link mix. If however your in a niche with no backlinks on your competition, then 1 profile page from a n/a should do it for you!

Blah. Links reign supreme. Of course relative links weight higher than n/a but the bottom line is, the more links the better. At the end of the day when you have exhausted all of your SEO efforts on other tangibles. Backlinks trump all SEO tactics. So a link from a N/A profile page is far from useless.

It can be close to useless.
Consider the difference between the effects of a pathetic pr n/a profile link, and a cunningly placed bit of PR6 comment spam on a page with no other spam links.
The profile link just does not compare to the PR6 blog spam link.
I've said this so many times before but I'll say it again - profile links are useful in 2 scenarios:
1) You have an automated tool which can automatically create hundreds (like sick submitter)
2) You can beef up your profile pages by getting high PR internal pages of a website to link back to them (by leaving real comments and having the PR flow back to your profile page through your name link)
I get what's being said, links are good, but I am afraid I couldn't let that one slide. Compared to other link sources, one little profile link is weak relative to other types of links.

If I create like 500 profiles on some non spammed websites (not xrumer viagra spam farms), and then I make like 20 backlinks for each profile, do you think it's still useless ?
I'm doing this for all my websites, but I must admit I'm doing a lot of things at the same time, so I dunno if the improved rankings comes from the profiles or from other stuff.
On thing is certain though. I had great results using LFE (wpmu blog posts), and all those wpmu posts are PR n/a when they re created. Profiles and LFE blog posts are a bit the same, even if there is more content on the wpmu blog posts than on the profiles.
So, if it works for the blog posts, it should work for the profiles, right ?

Couldn't have said it better myself....
He who has the most links wins is what I tell all my clients. It's worked well, and on some of my sites gets me top rankings in as little as 8 minutes.
